Bradley's Rienk Mast was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week after he had 14 points and 6 rebounds in Sunday's game at UNI, and 13 points and 4 rebounds in Monday night's game. His averages for the 2 games this past week were 13.5 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 50.0% (9-18 ) from the field, 54.5% on threes (6-of-11). Congratulations, Rienk!

Rienk does have a sweet stroke for a big man. If he can keep playing like he has shown in the past 2 games that could become a game changer for this team. Congrats Rienk!

Right on to that! He had a slow start like Ville did, but he's definitely heating up. And to think he's a freshman! That's one good freshman!

The MVC women's Player of the Week is Lasha Petree again. IT is her second POW award this season. She averaged 23.5 ppg in a 2-game sweep of Southern Illinois. She leads the MVC in scoring with an average of 21.6 ppg, ahead of the MVC's 2nd ranking scorer Gabi Haack (15.8 ppg).

I think Rienk's 3 three's in the second half were instrumental in Bradley winning that game. I think with him in there it makes it very hard for another team to defend Bradley. If the other team puts there center to guard Rienk then he gets pulled away from the basket to defend his 3. Then Elijah and JaShon can go wild underneath. Such as the Rienk to Darius Hannah play

Yes. Elijah Childs had a great 1st half, scoring 12 of his 16 points, but UNI made adjustments and denied him the ball in the 2nd half and he was not as effective. When Bradley fell behind by 8 points early in the 2nd half, it was Ja'Shon Henry who made 6 of his 8 baskets in the middle 2nd half, plus a nice assist to Eli for a layup that pulled Bradley back from the deficit and help put them ahead. And then it was Rienk Mast who nailed three 3-pointers in less than a 3-minute span of the second half (at 9:43, 7:50, & 6:49), to overcome UNI's threes, and to push Bradley out to an 8 point lead (62-54). From there, it was Terry Nolan, Jr. with 7 points down the stretch (a 3-pointer and 4 FTs), another bucket by Ja'Shon Henry, and a pair of made free throws by Antonio Thomas and Rienk Mast that gave Bradley the 75 points needed to hold on to the win. This was definitely a team win, but with a bunch of outstanding individual performances.

Mast also looks like he could be the best passer on the team. He really seems to read guys getting open like a quarterback.

One more award for Bradley redshirt-freshman Rienk Mast- He was named Bradley Scholar-Athlete of the Week yesterday-

Rienk is majoring in Physics. I cannot recall the last time a Bradley player majored in physics. That is a really tough curriculum.
                Congratulations again to Rienk!

Great pjstar article and video today of the sport Reink Mast grew up with: korfball
It has a lot of similarity to bball but is much more of a finesse game since it’s always co-ed. You can see why Reink is such a good passer.

Also a great article in the paper on Nyjah White from the ladies BB team.
It seems like the paper is giving BU a lot more coverage this year then they have for a while. Good job to PJStar

"Promoting Bradley's brand" has always been extremely good business for the Peoria Journal Star. It is amazing it took them this long to figure that out. Hope it's not too late. Seems there were people there who thought they were bigger than the stories they covered.

We haven’t had to many freshmen big men that are as developed as he is at this stage.

Bradley has a second straight Newcomer of the Week- Terry Nolan, Jr., named NOW for the Week ending January 19-

Note the weekly teleconferences embedded in the first link. Coach Wardle talked about the upcoming Illinois State game, and that the players all recognize the significance of it being a rivalry game. Neither Ari Boya nor Kevin McAdoo will be available for the ISU game. Coach Wardle feels that having a lot of games in a short span is good for Bradley. After playing only 4 games in a 26 day span, Bradley just played 4 games in a 7 day span, and will now play their next 6 games in a 12 day span.

Well they’re at least not trashing Bradley’s brand anymore... and therefore I no longer trash theirs, in fact I’m a promoter of the pjs coverage of BU at the moment and I resubscribed.
