  • St. Joe’s pauses team activities- BU-St. Joe's game Saturday cancelled

Bradley is scheduled to play St. Joseph next Saturday, but the team announced today that they are pausing all team activities. Looks like the St. Joe’s game and our chance to get revenge for last year’s loss will not be happening.

On Nov 27 Mike Brey of Notre Dame indicated they were looking for a game Dec4/5 and were willing to travel. How about that one as a replacement.

Trying to schedule games this season is like air traffic control dealing with flights at O'hare during a snowstorm.

Here is the St. Joseph's statement-
        https://sjuhawks.com/news/2020/11/29...id-update.aspx

They have "paused all team activities for 14 days due to a positive COVID-19 test result among the program's "Tier 1" personnel."
And this afternoon, Bradley released this official statement-
        https://bradleybraves.com/news/2020/...postponed.aspx

As expected, the game has been removed from Bradley's schedule-

Bradley's statement doesn't say anything about trying to replace that game on the schedule. And with no fans to satisfy, I doubt they will.
I don't think a school like Notre Dame would have played Bradley here in Peoria. There are a number of lesser teams with openings in the schedule now who would be willing to play Bradley here, but they would be looking to get a check. The St. Joe's game was not a "buy game", it was a return game they owed us. With the financial crunch, Bradley won't want to pay someone for a "buy game". So there will just be one less game this season. Let's hope that's the only one, though there is a pretty good chance we could see more.

I'm with HoustonBrave on this one. Yea, like Da Coach said, probably not Notre Dame. Can't hurt to ask. I suspect there are a lot of teams out there looking for a chance at an opponent in this crazy season. There's gotta be teams just looking for chances to get some games in. And I'm not suggesting we go out and schedule someone like Chicago State for the heck of it. So hopefully we keep ourselves open for an opportunity that can be beneficial for both teams.

This St Joe's cancellation just plain St Blow's. I wanted to pay them back for the egg we laid at their place last year.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

The St. Joseph's game in Peoria will not be rescheduled this season, but will be moved to next season.
And Bradley is actively looking to possibly add a couple games-
                https://www.pjstar.com/story/sports/...me/6471951002/

                A quote from the article-
Bradley coach Brian Wardle said a replacement game is being sought for this weekend, as well as one for early next week — possibly a non-Division I opponent — before finals begin Wednesday.
“We’re trying to fill this weekend’s game with somebody,” he said. “We’ve posted on the scheduling websites and talked to some schools.”

The fact that Bradley is also looking to add a game "for early next week" is interesting, and this is the first we've heard this. We know the Saturday home game against St. Joe's has been cancelled, so it makes sense to look for a replacement for that game. But Bradley is still scheduled to play South Dakota State next Tuesday, Dec. 7. That game has not been cancelled according to both Bradley's and South Dakota State's official schedules. So where would they fit another game "early next week... before finals begin Wednesday"?

Furthermore, the NCAA has determined that the maximum number of games that a D1 team can play this season is:
                https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball...st-limitations
                • 25 regular-season games if a team does not participate in a multiple-team event
                • 25 regular-season games and one multiple-team event that includes up to two games
                • 24 regular-season games and one multiple-team event that includes up to three games
So since Bradley's MTE involved 3 games, the new NCAA rule allows them to play a maximum of 24 other games. 18 of them will be MVC games. So the way I count, they can only play 6 other non-conference games in addition to the Xavier event. If they get a replacement for the St. Joe's game, that will make 6 non-conference games (Judson, the replacement for St. Joe's, So. Dakota St., Jackson St., Miami [OH], and Missouri). So there won't be enough room for another game.
So what was Coach Wardle referring to? Are they expecting another non-conference game to be cancelled? Or is the MVC schedule going to be less than 18 games?

I wonder Da Coach... and I apologize for not paying closer attention if I am way off here. But.... the season began last Wednesday. Nobody was able to schedule exhibition games before the start of the season. However, are teams able to schedule exhibition games after the official start of the season? Typically teams are allowed 2 exhibition games that don't go towards the total amount of allowable games for the season. So... maybe we are trying to squeeze in an exhibition? Or - reclassify Judson as exhibition and schedule a D1? I apologize in advance for not knowing rules for games this season.

Edit: maybe "early next week" could be Sunday? Instead of filling St Joes game with a game "late this week" (Saturday)? Guess it depends on how one looks at start/end of weeks.

It really does. They absolutely want no business with Bradley this year. Not saying they are cancelling just so they don't have to play, but they probably aren't to sad to miss this game. I'm sure Bradley would want a little revenge. Additionally, although it likely won't happen, I would love a game with Northwestern. That's another game I definitely think Bradley can win. They can makeup for that ugly loss to them from last year in Ft. Myers. Either way I think it would be in Bradleys best interest to get a game if possible. If it doesn't work out, it stinks, but I don't want them to just skip it without trying to schedule something. Sounds like wardle is trying to get something. Looks like maybe they could get a game with Western IL or SIUE? Not that those games are good but they are better than nothing and certainly better than a non- D1 game.

I am not sure I know the answer here MacabreMob. The NCAA did ban preseason exhibition games this season-
                      http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/...%20that%20date.

But that specifically states: "The Division I Council approved moving the first contest date in Division I men’s and women’s basketball to Nov. 25 for the 2020-21 season.. No exhibition games or closed scrimmages will be allowed before that date"

I suppose that leaves open the possibility of playing an exhibition game after the start of the season, however, I have never heard of any Division I team doing that.

Well if St.Joes cant play us for whatever reason then they forfeit.

I have seen people who are pushing for that-
In just the last week, three FBS programs have postponed their upcoming games due to COVID-19 concerns. Baylor, Florida, and Vanderbilt all contacted their opponents requesting that their matchups be moved to later in the season because of spikes in positive results within the football programs.

But the NCAA has said that a cancelled game can only be declared a forfeit if the team with the Covid problem refuses to reschedule or play the game at a later time. St. Joseph's has already agreed to make up the game next season.
A game can be cancelled permanently without rescheduling or forfeit, if both teams agree.

I'm imagining some sort of Tinder scheduling app that ADs are just swiping left and right. Lowly schools are swiping left on everyone and the power 5 are just waiting for other power 5's. Can't be a fun time to be filling out a schedule on the fly!

There are multiple websites that coaches use to try to arrange games. Below is one of the more popular sites. It requires coaches register and log on with an official university email address. Teams that are looking for games can post the dates they want to add games and wait for someone to contact them. Or they can contact other coaches who have already posted.
