Alright, there is a lot of new stuff this week at https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/.

-We are now on Twitter. Follow @BeatMVC

-New week 10 power rankings and tidbits. The tidbits this week are essentially a mid-major bubble watch so I figure that might be interesting to some people. https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/p...etology-update

-This week's other article is a check-in on the Larry Bird Trophy race (written primarily before this weekend's games, so it is already a bit out of date. I look at the top 15 candidates with at least one from each team. Childs is featured for Bradley. https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/p...y-watch-top-15

Thanks everyone! Have a good one!

-With the FCS season starting this week (and a lack of new ideas from me) my second article is an MVFC preview. I doubt that will be terribly popular here, but take a look if you're interested: https://www.missourivalleybeat.com/p...season-preview

There have been some awesome stories in the Valley this year, but there have also been some real bummers. You all have been on the unfortunate side with UNI. I ranked you down in the power rankings with the assumption you won't get the three guys back. Let me know if I am wrong.

I try not to post twice a week, but I am making an exception this week to promote my Arch Madness preview I just posted. I honestly think it is some of my better work. Check it out here if you want a primer for the weekend:

Arch Madness is this weekend, and I won’t be there for just the second time in eighteen years. That makes this weekend bittersweet for me as I am excited for the tournament but also suffering from some serious FOMO. Recent developments at my place of work means my plans for taking Thursday night and all-day Friday off are now gone and I probably wont even be able to watch the games live until Saturday. That means this will be my lamest Arch Madness experience of my life. However, I am still exci

I wrap up my thoughts on Arch Madness and the UNI situation in this week's article. I also talk about the upcoming commissioner hire, possible alternative locations for Arch Madness, and the oft-discussed topic of expansion.

The 2021 edition of Arch Madness has come and gone, and it was probably the most unique edition of the event in its 31-year history. Congratulations to the Loyola Ramblers for winning the title and good luck in the NCAAs. Drake, you battled hard. I hope you are rewarded with a spot in the NCAA Tournament as well. The biggest national story that emerged from the event, other than perhaps Loyola’s title, was UNI’s expulsion and the way it went down. Just days after bragging about how they were th

I intend to continue to create MVC content as Drake and Loyola's seasons continue. Plus I have an idea for a fun article next week. So I am not done yet. But this does sort of feel like a season wrap up article in many ways.

Hello Braves Fans! I have two new articles for your consumption.

No new power rankings but I do have tid-bits. I pontificate on Loyola and Drake in the NCAAs, another weird COVID situation for the MVC at Hoops in the Heartland, Indiana State's reported new coach and a mid-major laden NIT field here:

The Valley is a multi-bid league for the first time since 2016! Drake got the very last at-large spot in the field to join automatic qualifiers Loyola in the competition. While the Valley has gotten multiple bids several times in the last couple decades, you need to go back to 2006 to find a time that two of the MVC’s current membership represented the league in the big dance in the same season. That year UNI, SIU and Bradley all made it along with Wichita State (Valpo has also qualified several

In my other piece I put together what a Mid Major NCAA Tournament might have looked like if the NCAA was split into two subdivisions in basketball similar to football:

As I am sure most of you know, Division I college football is split into two subdivisions. You have the FBS, or the bowl subdivision with the larger programs. You also have the FCS, or the championship subdivision with the mid-major programs. All seven of the football playing MVC schools play at the FCS level. Football is the only sport in which Division I is split in this way. But what if it wasn’t? Imagine, for a moment, a world where Division I college hoops were split into two divisions. Wha

Published some more tidbits. Its a quick read. Talks about the new commish, Loyola, Drake, the women, MVC historic success and mid-major failures in this tournament.

On July 1, the Missouri Valley will have a new commissioner in Jeff Jackson who is currently the executive associate commissioner of the Big 12. While little is known about Jackson, I got the outside hire I wanted. Now we’ll see what his agenda will be for the league. He used the phrase “move the needle” in his press conference. It is a cliché that I really love. I hope that he takes the league in a new forward-thinking direction instead of the status quo type approach we have had recently. Let’

Last tidbits of the year. It is a quick read about Loyola, the Lady Bears, transfers, and a roller coaster day for UNI fans yesterday. Thank you all for reading my stuff this year!

I miss last week. It was so full of excitement and hope. Loyola had a favorable draw in the Sweet 16, and the MSU women were on their way to locking up a Sweet 16 berth themselves. Even UNI’s women had made a run to the WNIT Final Four. All was well in the world of the MVC. Then this week happened. As you probably already know if you’re reading this, Loyola laid an egg on Saturday in the Sweet 16. After showing the world the peak of what they were capable of in handling top seed Illinois with ea

                        Hey Everyone,

I have mostly been covering football lately, but I took a break to compile my thoughts on the Belmont add and why I think Murray State should be next. Take a look if you'd like. Excited to be talking hoops again!

My thoughts on the Valley's outstanding choice to add Belmont and why I think Murray State should be next.

My preview for this season is below. I spent quite a bit of time on this and have been working on it off and on for the last two weeks. I tried to give each team about a page of preview. Take a look if you're interested. GO VALLEY!

My preview of all ten Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball teams in advance of the 2021-22 season.

Thanks for trying to get this corrected, though as of now, it has not been corrected yet.

Considering the blogger claims: "I spent quite a bit of time on this and have been working on it off and on for the last two weeks", I am amazed he got this so wrong. Here is what his blog says about Bradley-

"Elijah Childs, Danya Kingsby, Terry Nolan and Ja’Shon Henry were lost for the remainder of the season. The difference was striking....

Of the group of suspended players only Ja’Shon Henry (10.9 PPG, 4.6 RPG) returns. I am not spending any time in the BU locker room, but I can imagine he lost some credibility with his teammates after his suspension."

Of course, Ja'Shon Henry missed only the 2 games at Missouri State and was reinstated a couple days later and played in Bradley's final 4 games. He was cleared of any involvement in the incident, and the blogger needs to correct his piece.
Kingsby and Nolan were also later "released" from any involvement in the case by the Springfield police, though the blogger fails to include this important fact.

But his statement that Ja'Shon "lost some credibility with his teammates" could not be further from the truth. I would hope that if the blogger is concerned about facts and accuracy that he corrects his mistakes.
