I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Originally posted by Da Coach View PostYes, for us old-timers who were there in 1982, it was a great team to watch and follow. If not for a disappointing upset to ISU in the 1982 MVC Tournament, I believe Bradley would have gone a long way in the NCAA Tournament.
Bradley should have been given an at-large bid anyway as the winner of the MVC regular season. But, Dave Gavitt, who was the chairman of the selection committee made sure that the Big East got their top 4 teams in the 48-team tournament, while only the MVCT winner got an invite. Gavitt was also the AD of a Big East school (Providence) and would later become the Commissioner of the Big East
The snub might have given the Braves a little more reason to win the NIT. They easily breezed through the competition winning the 5 games en route to the NIT championship by an average of 13 points, including a 95-81 spanking of a very good Syracuse team on their home court, the Carrier Dome, where they rarely lost.
Ironically, when Dick Versace complained publicly about Gavitt's selection committee's favoritism in picking 4 Big East teams and snubbing the MVC Champion Braves, Gavitt reportedly said the Big East's 5th place team, Syracuse, was in line to get a bid ahead of Bradley.
I have tapes of those NIT games and have watched them several times.
Anyway - it had RPI data all the way back to BEFORE the 1982 season.
I can't recall exactly, But Bradley was like 47th that year in an MVC rated like 14th that year. Bradley did NOT have a good resume to get into the NCAA as an at-large based on looking at data from the RPI - a tool which was used for years to aid in the selection process.
Anyway - after I saw that and looked other teams in the 1982 RPI.... we did NOT get snubbed.
Don't misunderstand me - I think we woulda been competitive and won a game or two.... or more in the NCAA just like everybody else.
My point is, Bradley didn't schedule well enough that year and do well enough with the schedule they had to get attention for an at-large bid.

Here is a website with archives of RPIs back to 1980. You can set search parameters at the bottom of the page.
And here is the final RPI from 1982-
So I did a little research...
The final RPI has Bradley at RPI of 32. Boston College was #20, which is expected, since they played in a much stronger conference and would have had a far better Strength of Schedule. The difference between Bradley (#32) and Boston College (#20) is enough to concede that BC did deserve an at-large bid.
However, there were quite a few teams that year that had worse RPIs than Bradley's #32, and were given at-large bids over BU.
Some that I can determine were at-large teams in 1982, and were not conference winners -Tennessee #33, VCU #36, USC #37, Iowa #41, Indiana #45, Ohio State #48, Pittsburgh #55, and maybe others.
So if RPI was a key factor, maybe it's reasonable that one could believe Bradley was snubbed by the selection committee.

That's interesting. I'm trying to navigate the search. Not getting info. No worries. It isn't really important to me.
From the site I used years ago, I felt comfortable and confident with the info.
But so... even if you wanna say a team RPI of 32 in a Conference rank that is in the teens.... back when the NCAA Tourney only had 48 teams... so not many at-large berths. I still feel Bradley was NOT snubbed.
Would we have been competitive? Would we win a game? Multiple games? Yes Yes and Yes
But - I don't "feel" snubbed anymore after seeing some data and info.

Any tech geeks out there that know anything about video converters? I'm using Movivo Video Converter 21 Premium, but when I convert to MP4 format, the video and audio don't sync up. I've tried to find a solution online with no luck and I'm working on an imac, not a PC.
