  • Matt Roth - Press Conference

BradleyFans has an elite team of reporters that will be at the Matt Roth press conference and reporting via cameras and wireless right to BradleyFans.com and we will have LIVE, real-time reports and will be the very first worldwide to have the news of Matt Roth's choice.

Either way, IU or BU, I AM PROUD of Bradley and coach Jim Les and staff for battling head to head with some of the very top basketball programs and traditions for these recruits.
We battled right down to the wire against Illinois, and UNC on Shumpert.
We battled right down to the wire against Purdue on Lewis Jackson.
Now he are head to head and maybe gonna win this one vs. Indiana!
Come on, BU fans...does anyone but me see the impact of what's going on?
Today could be a very good day...OR IT COULD BE A TRULY GREAT DAY!

    Thanks Coach Les...and GO BU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and stay tuned for the reports beginning at around 4PM...)

Roth would be a nice pick-up, but he won't make nor break this recruiting class. But, it would be nice to see another local kid do well at BU. I think he fits into our scheme very, very well.
    Onward and Upward!

I am all for getting involved in the battles, something MO would never do, would be so significate to win one, I think that would start a snowball effect for us and for the Valley.

The most significant part of anything, to me with Roth, is if we can take a player recruited and offered by Indiana.

        ????

What do you mean by this?

AP could've played in the Big Ten.

Eric Roberson was out of Pittsburgh and recruited by the entire Big East and most of the ACC.

Anthony Grundy was recruited away from his commitment by the ACC. Mo did not shy away in that matter either.

Not to mention he got his bones recruiting for Ray Meyer and was principally responsible for putting together several classes regarded among the nation's best.

Just curious what you are getting at.

I think there were indeed a few years after being burned by Grundy that he may have avoided going after the big fish.

But his last year, on the roster at Bradley:

        -Future MWC POY
        -Future Horizon POY
        -Future All-SEC performer

Guys that were sought after by bigger schools.

This is something I've been thinking about for a few weeks. It's been great to hear our name mentioned with the "big boys" this summer, and it's obvious that Coach Les and the rest of the staff have a great eye for talent, and seem to find it before some of the other big boys, but when does just hearing our name mentioned not become enough? What I mean is, yes, T all those guys mentioned above we were in on, and it's awesome to see Bradley mentioned with the likes of UNC, etc., but we have yet to get a commitment from one of these guys we've been pursuing who has "blown up" and I just hope that maybe we aren't over-shooting ourselves so to speak and missing out on guys that will sign with BU.

This is in no way a jab at the coaching staff, I think they're doing a great job. It's just I see us losing out on these guys to bigger schools and it makes me wonder if we're also losing out on guys that would come to Bu by pursuing guys who won't eventually wear a Bradley uniform. This program has grown tons over the last few years, and who would have thought a few years ago that Bradley would be mentioned with Purdue and UNC, not many, and I know it only takes on huge recruit to come here and bring even more success, I just hope that the trend of us being in early with guys and then losing them to power-conference schools doesn't continue.

Sorry for the rambling, just something I've been thinking about for a few weeks.

I think most of it has to do with what 2 years of success will do.

JL is a good salesman. BU has a good product to sell. And with BU's tradition and history reinforced with back-to-back postseasons, you start getting more attention from potential recruits.

You are not going to land the "big fish" overnight. But you make a play with 3-4 medium sized "fishes" and do some postseason damage, the Blue Chippers start arriving on campus.

But '06, we did not lose out on Rashad Austin who was getting pursued by New Mexico State.
We didn't lose out on David Collins who got interest from Charlotte and an offer from San Diego State.
We didn't lose out on Will Egolf who was getting Pac 10 interest.
How about Theron Wilson who got SEC interest.
And Sam Maniscalco who fielded a few calls from DePaul, etc.
Even Buycks, tho he didn't qualify, was offered by Iowa State.
Anthony Thompson had offers from SMU and Texas A&M

I agree squirrel. And while I also agree that Mo did some good recruiting at the end of his tenure, he didn't do what Jim Les has done: capitalize on success to garner attention and build more success. Mo, for reasons I will NEVER understand, checked out of the game after the 1996 season. JL has really built on 2006. Maniscalco, Egolf, Thompson et al proved that. Getting in with UNC and IU proves it too.

I know, and those are all schools that BU can compete with, whereas North Carolina, and Indiana are on a whole different level. Like I said, I'm not trying to second-guess the coaching staff, because from what I've seen and heard the newest class may be one of BU's best ever, I guess I just really want us to get "over the hump" and get one of these big-time recruits. Though it's obvious that the coaches have already done great things with guys who weren't as heavily recruited.

Personally I do not recall or know who exactly recruited or offered AP, Roberson, didnt he injury his knee as a senior and most backed off of him? Gundy, yes MO recruited him and he backed out.

I just did not see MO going toe to toe on as many recruits as JL is going after.

But you could be correct, simply because I do not know or have any links to who did or didnt recruit the AP's Jacksons Wrights etc of MO's tenure.

We may never get a 4- or 5-star recruit. That really doesn't matter to me. I trust the staff to be able to find talent good enough to win the MVC, and they have done that IMO. Preseason hoopla is fine, but it really doesn't mean a thing. I care about what happens on the court. If we keep winning 20+ games a year, contending for the MVC title, and knocking off BCS team after BCS team, I don't care if the players come from Zimbabwe. Just win baby, just win.

Well said BB, but actually landing one of these 4 or 5 star recruits could definately help the process. With that said, your point is valid, just thinking back a few years, guys like Will Frankliin and Lawerence Wright didn't have the national exposure, but they worked out good I'd say.

BradleyFans has learned from at least two other reliable sources, in addition to the PJ Star source, that Matt Roth has chosen Indiana.

So unless some unexpected change of mind takes place, then there is little further need to do the live updates, and this thread will report further only if developments alter the status quo....
