Today showed there’s a pretty clear top 8. East, Nolan, McAdoo, Kingsby, Tahvaneinen, Henry, Childs, and Boya will play big roles every game. The part that wasn’t clear is which freshman big will be the ninth guy, since Boya will struggle to avoid foul trouble. Bigs attract whistles, especially active defense first guys like Ari. And he looks really good right now on that end.

Hannah looks very quick and long. He had a couple very promising possessions matched against Childs. But he also played himself out of position as a help defender. Mast looked like the best rebounder of the three. His form on his jumper is great even tho they mostly didn’t go in. His lateral quickness is his biggest weakness at the moment, but he is probably the first option to back up Ari in my opinion. Linke didn’t stand out to me in any way, positive or negative. Sometimes the guy who doesn’t make mistakes is the best option, but he is third of these three right now. There isn’t too much separating these three tho really.

Kent is a really promising prospect. He’s so long, and his shot is so smooth it’s hard to see him not being a contributor in the next couple years. He’s sneaky athletic, but he’s a perimeter guy and we are very deep on the outside. If he were 20-25 pounds heavier and could play some power forward he’d get minutes this year, but as it is he’s probably going to have limited time this year. I like him a lot for next year.
    Gotta stop feeding the trolls.

Great comments by all. Boya really impressed me... keeps improving and is becoming a dominant interior presence. He finishes well around the basket. Kevin Mcadoo did everything today I saw in his highlight video from two years ago. He can make shots off the dribble, penetrate the lane and score, plays the point and does everything you need from a seasoned guard. There were some here that questioned how much he would contribute. Nolan is as good as advertised... interesting that he was playing the point.

This thread has made me very happy. So nice to talk about BU basketball instead of a COVID for a minute. Let’s hope we can open up and get to some games soon!

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

With all the guard talent it’s going to be interesting to see how Wardle makes PT decisions. Knowing he likes to run a systematic approach, will Kingsby and Thomas get a PT boost initially having been in the system, or will the new guys break into the lineup right away? Nolan and McAdoo have been in the system a year... just not in games. That leaves the very talented East as a true newcomer to the system, but not to high level competition. I’ll predict he doesn’t start at PG from day one, but could win the spot down the road.... but I could be wrong on either end. Wardle has a keen sense of who he’s comfortable with, even if that’s not the guy with the highest talent ceiling every time. Hopefully everybody embraces team goals over personal goals, and sticks with the program. It is fun to see we’ve got guards that can finish at the rim as well as from outside. Nolan and McAdoo outperformed my expectations. Boya’s confidence is resulting in more productivity, but this is a scrimmage without fans. Could the “no fans” issue this year improve our road record?

It’s hard not to talk about it Dub. Seems like that’s all we hear about 24-7. I’m not being cavalier about it though....

                    Article in PJ Star-

A few point totals according to Dave Reynolds-

                    Kevin McAdoo- 16 points
                    Danya Kingsby- 14 points
                    Sean East- 12 points
                    Ari Boya- 10 points
                    Jayson Kent- 6 points
                    Darius Hannah- 5 points

Was there any record of fouls? I am hoping that Boya can stay out of foul problems this year.

I don't think they kept complete stats, so we won't likely see foul numbers. I recall Ari getting one or maybe two fouls, but despite the fast tempo and a lot of driving to the basket, I thought he did very well avoiding unnecessary contact. But he does go for the block whenever he can (according to Dave Reynolds he had "at least 4 blocks"), and the MVC refs do like to call fouls on blocks even when it's questionable.

The YouTube link no longer works for me.
                          How about for anyone else?
                          Thanks in advance.

I watched it previously but you are right I don’t see it available on the athletics YouTube channel now. My only thought would be that they might have taken it down to make it more difficult for other Early season opponent teams to scout us. As I remember they used to avoid video of preseason games for this reason.
