  • Winter athlete eligibility

Seems basketball players that are seniors this year will receive an additional year of eligibility, and their roster spot next year will not count towards the 13 man roster.

thus may mean Child’s can play next year as well if he wishes, however it seems players will also be able to transfer without any penalty or wait period next spring, so things may resemble a free for all where nearly every player in the country is basically a free agent.

So, I see two issues with this. First, some teams may basically have 5 classes of players on their team next year. Obviously this slows down the development and play time for the younger players.

Two, expect the power schools to be on a shopping spree in the Spring. If players can transfer without having to sit every power school will be attempting to reload their rosters with the best mid major players in the country. And it isn’t just for graduates or seniors, it’s for everyone as far as what I am hearing.

As with most of the Covid 19 “relief” strategies, the winners and losers are being picked and the big dogs are going to come out waaay better, and at the expense of everyone else.

What I have read says winter athletes get an additional year-not just seniors.

The next couple years for college sports are going to be really weird. Things will be backed up for the incoming classes with playing time. I'll take a fifth year from Childs though. I feel bad for our seniors last year though, never getting to play in March Madness that they earned.

The MVC should be pretty good these next couple years. In addition to Elijah Childs and Danya Kingsby returning next year (we hope), the MVC will have a number of very good seniors like Cameron Krutwig, Tate Hall, Tyreke Key, Gaige Prim, Trae Berhow, Tremell Murphy, Keith Fisher, and others, who will have the opportunity to return for a 5th year. Plus, the underclass players will also have that opportunity in future years.
But as I mentioned in another thread, there will almost certainly be some of those players who will be lured to transfer away from the MVC, and that is the biggest downside to these new rules. It just further stacks the deck against non-major schools when the deck was already heavily stacked against them ever getting their fair share of the NCAA revenue pie.
