Wichita State hasn’t suspended Gregg Marshall, and some faculty want to know why

Apparently, the Wichita State administrators have dealt with complaints about Gregg Marshall's abusive behavior multiple times over the past few years, and knew about these latest complaints for months and kept them secret until the website The Athletic broke the story 10 days ago.
It is a very interesting article that I recommend reading. Here are a few paragraphs-
Jeff Hayton, assistant professor of history and a member of the WSU Faculty Senate, said by not suspending Marshall during the investigation WSU is sending two messages: “it doesn’t take allegations of physical abuse seriously” and “it doesn’t take the well-being of its students seriously.”
“And both of these messages point to a dereliction of duty towards those entrusted in our care and a complete bankruptcy of morality,” Hayton continued. “The fact that WSU won’t take a principled stand against physical and verbal abuse is yet another black mark on this institution’s reputation.”
“If a professor was credibly accused of assaulting a student during class, would that professor be allowed back into the classroom while the allegation was being investigated,” Hayton said. “No, ... university policies are fairly clear on this.
“Physical assault is an action that can get a tenured professor fired and should lead to a criminal referral. The standard should be no different with our sports coaches, regardless of how big their salaries are. By not suspending Marshall during the investigation, WSU is telling everyone that it is just going through the motions.”
Wichita State is copping out and refusing to answer these concerns with an unnamed university spokesman saying-
“Suspension of university employees is a personnel decision,” the statement says. “The university does not comment on personnel matters in accordance with state and federal privacy laws.”

The Gregg Marshall story isn't fading away like Wichita State would like. It seems only to be getting more coverage, and today, another article in The Athletic (a subscription sports website) reveals that his abusive and vulgar behavior predates his time at Wichita State. Some of his former players at Winthrop University dating back as far as 20 years ago report some of the same type of behavior that has gotten him in trouble at Wichita State.
"He’s been in the national spotlight, so I thought he’s probably changed. But apparently he hasn’t.’’

It has been nearly a month since the story broke about Gregg Marshall's history of verbal and physical abuse of players. And multiple ex-players at Wichita State as well as his former school Wofford have come forward with their stories that document a long history of abusive behavior. And it's been nearly a month since Wichita State hired an outside law firm to do an investigation. But there has still not been any announcement or decision made. Does that seem a bit strange? The law firm doing the investigation has had plenty of time to track down players and interview them, so the longer this drags on, it seems more and more like they are hoping to sweep it under the rug.
Today, this ad appeared in the Wichita Eagle newspaper. It contains the names of over 100 season ticket holders and supporters who staunchly back Marshall. It does not include a single name of any former players who played for him. Nor does it include the name of the biggest benefactor, Charles Koch, for whom their arena is named.

Meanwhile, Marshall is not suspended, he's still working and getting paid, and some people want to know why-

So obviously, the fans and most donors support Marshall and want the story to go away. But Wichita State still needs to make a decision, and it's not clear why it's taking this long. Oddly, the local newspaper, the Wichita Eagle, is not doing much investigating or asking questions.
Their articles seem mostly geared at defending Marshall-
WSU coach Gregg Marshall defends coaching style as school investigates alleged abuse

In new statement, Gregg Marshall vehemently denies ever striking a player or coach

So far, the only meaningful investigation by journalists has come from national sports reports about the abuse from The Athletic and Stadium .
Meanwhile, practices are under way, and the season starts in 3 weeks.

It's now been over a month since the story about Gregg Marshall's abusive actions broke, and still not a word from Wichita State about how they intend to deal with the scandal. They obviously are hoping this all just blows over and goes away. There is no possible reason their investigation should take this long. There were multiple former players of Marshall's from Wichita State and from his previous school, Wofford, who went public with their claims, and even more who were willing to speak to investigators but wanted to remain anonymous. What could they possibly be waiting for?
Meanwhile, Gregg Marshall was never suspended, and remains in his position as head coach, drawing his $3.5 million/yr salary, and coaching players.
Some think it's because the big money donors at WSU are backing Marshall, and Wichita State won't do the right thing and fire Marshall because they are afraid of offending them-
Six couples who signed a letter of support for Marshall have each given more than $1 million to the university.
Many of the biggest donors signed their names to the ad supporting Marshall that was posted in the newspaper-
Gregg Marshall is under investigation for alleged misconduct at Wichita State, with multiple players coming forward with claims of physical and verbal abuse and racist behavior, but still, some Shocker fans stand in his corner. According to Shocker Nation, there is an ad in The Wichita Eagle newspaper today from “Shockers for Coach Marshall,” a […]

Wichita TV station KSN obtained exit interviews from Wichita State athletes from the past several years. WSU refused to release some years, citing privacy issues, but KSN did obtain one from a basketball player from 2017-18, long before these recent allegations became public-
https://www.ksn.com/news/local/ksn-i...it-interviews/
It is quite interesting. He answers all the questions about his overall experience and about the assistant coaches with the highest positives.
But when it comes to the questions about Head Coach Gregg Marshall, he rates him POOR or VERY POOR in many areas like -
Personal interest in you outside athletics- POOR
Consideration of injuries- POOR
Equal application of discipline to all team members- POOR
Sensitive to the demands of your time- POOR
Demonstrated concern for your well being- POOR
Used positive methods to motivate you- POOR
Assessed your athletic ability fairly- POOR
Thinks winning is not everything- VERY POOR
Positive example of ethical behavior- VERY POOR
And then there were these questions-
Were you subject to inappropriate verbal communication- YES
Would you encourage other student-athletes to attend this institution- NO
I would hope the investigators were able to obtain all the other exit interviews from former players.
I have to believe it is quite rare that a player would be willing to burn bridges like the above athlete did.
