There is a growing interest in seeing the NCAA include all division I teams in a modified Tournament this season.
The ACC has already approved this idea and is pushing the NCAA to adopt it.
That would be awesome, but man would I hate to be one of the lowest seeded teams. Can you imagine Maryland Eastern Shore playing Kansas or Kentucky in the 1st round? Is there a mercy rule in D1 basketball?
On the bright side, I think BU would really do well in this setup!

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.
This is a terrible idea. The NCAA tournament should be something that is earned not given.
Right now, mid-majors have to win their conference tourneys in order to go. It's virtually impossible to finish second in the MVC and still go, while an ACC, Big 10, Big East, etc. team can finish middle of the pack and still make the show. I think everyone going is a better option than the way they currently run it, and the seed is what would be earned instead of the appearance. The NCAA will still stick it to mid-majors with the seeding, but at least there would be a lot more opportunity for them.
Now if they wanted to have every conference run their own tournament and only send their conference tournament champ for a final playoff, now that's something that would be equitable that I could get behind. Add a random seeding (like a lottery thing) to seed the teams, and even better. But that will never happen, because NCAA/money.
Think of the endless match-up possibilities!

Though there are some supporters of the ACC proposal for all D1 teams to play in a single huge NCAA Tournament, many others think it won't work.
Here is ESPN's Joe Lunardi- ACC proposal for a 346-team NCAA college basketball tournament won't work https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...ournament-work
Lunardi says: After a good night's sleep, perhaps the current ACC head coaches will come to a similar conclusion. Because their idea to conduct an all-inclusive NCAA tournament in 2021, however well-intentioned (color me skeptical), is going to crash against the rocks.
Don't believe me? Consider:
There are 346 Division I schools eligible for NCAA tourney play this coming season. That is 324 more teams than the NBA sent to its Orlando bubble. Conservatively estimating each school's travel party at 25, we're going to repeatedly test and quarantine more than 8,000 people? Just so half of them can lose and go home after 40 minutes of basketball? I don't think so.
The bracket itself, while amusing, would tax even the best of us. The basic math dictates that 166 teams receive opening round byes. The remaining 180 would play 90 additional games to create a symmetrical field of 256 teams, followed by a tidy eight-round gauntlet through the Final Four.
All told, we're increasing the number of games -- with commensurate travel and risk -- from 67 to 345. That's a fivefold increase and, while epidemiology is not my "ology," I do know that infectious disease transmission is not arithmetic. We would be looking at way, way, WAY more than five times the amount of exposure.

I still don't like the idea of watering down the prestige of making the tournament. Additionally, if you think the seeding is bad now, wait until we are a 100+ seed and would have to beat 2 or 3 BS P5 schools to get to a round where there is recognition.

You make a good point.

Ya know what might be workable? A 128 team tournament. It would be just one more round and the extra 64 or so spots would allow deserving MVC teams to participate. The top four MVC teams would get in.

Knowing the NCAA, they'd probably just include the remaining Power conference teams! Amiright!

I have thought about another alternative. The teams that win their conference during the regular season automatically get in. Then they have their tournaments and the winners of the tournaments get in. Each conference would have 2 teams going to the NCAA
Off the top of my head if you are letting everyone in.. Conference winners and Tournament winners get a bye .. win both get 2 byes
Probably a scheduling nightmare.. but does add some significance to the earning a regular season title and a tournament title

That is exactly the same idea I gave in February in the thread 'Predictions for the rest of the season', so needless to say I think that's a GREAT idea! I can't seem to figure out how to link to another thread, it just goes to the homepage, but here was my post!
Wouldn’t it be nice if every conference had two spots, one for the conference tournament champ and one for the season champ? If it’s the same team, send the season runner-up. It would be a great incentive for all teams and then every conference would have 2 shots to win it all.
I think there are 32 conferences, so this would work out perfectly.
Unfortunately, the NCAA is worried only about money, so we’ll continue to see 4-7 teams from the power conferences while the mid-majors are left for the 2nd rate tourneys.
I wish the mid-majors would make their own tournament or better yet, leave the NCAA altogether. Then maybe they’d have to change the bias we’ve put up with for so long.
Oh, and seeding would be gone. Draw the teams out of a hat and let the chips fall where they may.
