I'm not to concerned. JL has made the right moves every time there seemed to be a question. We need to give these boys a chance to become men and trust JL.
It has NOTHING to do with trusting JL. It has everything to do with this kid being flighty and not having school and basketball as his top priorities. From the sounds of things so far it sounds like there could be a lot of drama surrounding this kid. This program doesn't need drama. We've had enough of that. We need good kids, good players, and a good team. I trust JL found a talented kid. But the kid has missed the summer, which already has one of our top assistants admittedly concerned. Why am I not allowed to be concerned as well?
My FIRST concern was that he wasn't even going to be here. Thats been lifted a bit...again until he's actually here its still a slight concern.

Once he is here I think things will smooth out...at least I hope. Get around the players...get busy with classes and start feeling the "love" from the BU community at events like the Itoo supper, team cookouts at JL's, etc.

I don't think Austin is being "flighty." He did have school as a top priority. He had to finish his work at his old school.

What's wrong in giving him time in taking a break to visit family before heading off to live in a place he isn't familiar with? I think we would have even more issues if he came to BU immediately after finishing coursework at his old school and became terribly homesick.

I think it's easy for us fans to think basketball should be the highest priority for him. But he did the best he could to finish school as soon as possible and get himself ready.

First...great report, dru, nice to know that great "Volunteer Reporters" are out pounding the pavement and getting the stories for BradleyFans.

Second....I have heard that not only is Merf a legit 5' 8", he has a massive wingspan of 5' 6" and a 13.5" vertical!!!

Third...I was unable to join you downstairs dogs, but....
(you didn't think I would ignore the whole event), but I was doing some consulting work up on 6 Pavilion and saw the action out the window, down at the cafeteria, so I went to the 6th floor elevator lobby and pretty much watched the entire thing from the time the news stations were interviewing everyone, until JL left.
Actually many people were crowded into each of the east-facing elevator lobbies, and window and were watching.
As I told Rick Gaa, this was probably a MUCH MORE impact-ful event than either the BU people or Methodist people know.
Lots of the employees were interested, talking Bradley basketball, and taking quick trips to the windows to watch.
I suggest BU make a yearly event (or events) of Jim Les challenging Bryant, and maybe even some of the media guys like Pegler, Mattson, and Hall.
Maybe even issue an open challenge to the Mayor and Ray LaHood and have a shootout right on the Civic Center floor (of Fieldhouse) with the news stations filming and give away free T-shirts, hats, or tickets as well.
The pubicity will be worth it and I am sure some of those marginal and borderline BradleyFans will get more interested.
I saw it happening without a doubt today as a few of the observers from the windows knew me to be a good BU fan and started asking me about the current players and what to expect this year.
(of course I did my best salesman job.... )

You could be correct SS...lets hope so. We are all looking forward to Austin becoming a memeber of the BU family...the sooner the better.

Time for a double shot....a bufan9 or Heemy sighting of Austin and a MR verbal all by Saturday.

I agree with ser sollace as it is only fair to let him spend some time at home before coming to Peoria ; I think it is unfair to compare him to Drugs Brown and j. only care about myself Fears ; I think we need to give him a chance as he made a decision to come to Bradley on his own so we should support him as he has done nothing wrong .

Well stated....I think it should be clear though that we are "concerned" because we WANT him hear. We are not "upset" at him as we were with guys like Fears and Brown.

DRU - thanks for the report.

The technology today allows us to raise concerns that so many would NEVER know a couple or 5 or 10 .... 20 .... 25 years ago.

Nothing terribly new but here is the PJ Star story on Austin, Salley and Matt Roth.

It does say that Austin can't come until the transcripts are in hand and that could delay things a day or two. It also downplays any issues with Matt Salley. All good in my mind....
