  • Bradley grad Andy Masur is named the new radio play-by-play voice for the Chicago White Sox

1989 Bradley grad Andy Masur was named as the new Chicago White Sox play-by-play broadcaster today. He will replace Ed Farmer, who passed away April 1, 2020, and who has served as the radio play-by-play voice since 2006.

Andy has held a number of jobs in radio and TV since leaving Bradley. After graduation, he worked at WMBD radio for several years, then worked for Metro Networks in Chicago from 1995 to 1997, reporting traffic, news and sports for several different Chicago stations, including 780 WBBM-AM, 670 The Score, 720 WGN-AM, and 101.9 WTMX. From 1997-1999 he worked for The Sporting News Network, then from 1999-2007 as a studio host for pregame and postgame programming for the Chicago Cubs on WGN Radio. Concurrent with that stint, he spent 4 seasons as the radio play-by-play voice of the Loyola Ramblers basketball team (2002-2006). Then he was the radio play-by-play voice for the MLB San Diego Padres and the University of San Diego Toreros basketball team from 2007-2014. Then in 2014 he began working for WGN radio again, and from 2018 through 2019 he was a broadcaster and pregame and postgame studio host on WGN for White Sox radio broadcasts. Plus, he occasionally filled in for Ed Farmer as the radio play-by-play broadcaster during the last couple seasons. He has also done college basketball play-by-play for the Horizon League on ESPN3, for the UW-Milwaukee Panthers on TWC Sports Channel in Milwaukee, and college baseball and softball for the Big 10 Network.

    Congratulations to Andy!

Andy was interviewed on WGN radio this morning and talked a little about his history with Bradley University and working in Peoria and the connection of Jack Brickhouse with Peoria and WGN. He jokingly stated that he wanted to play pro baseball, but realized that he would never be able to hit the curve ball.
