The Eredivisie is the same top pro league in Netherlands that Donar Groningen plays in. Rienk Mast played for Donar in 2018-19, and Donte Thomas played for them in 2019-20.

The team is located in the city of Leiden, which is about 50 miles southwest of the capital city of Amsterdam. It is about 140 miles from Luuk's hometown of Helmond, Netherlands.

Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden Basketball has registered the fourth player for the upcoming basketball season. Luuk van Bree, a 2.03 meter long forward, signed a two-season contract with the Leiden club today.

Luuk van Bree (born February 24, 1996) moved to the United States via Canarias Basketball Academy (Spain) in 2015. He spent four years there for Bradley's college team. In his last season, Van Bree was in the starting five in 17 of the 32 games. On average, he spent just over 18 minutes within the lines. In it, the basketball player born in Helmond scored an average of 5.7 points (35.2% three-pointers) and 4.0 rebounds. In that season, Bradley surprised friend and foe by winning the fifth-place squad of the Missouri Valley Conference playoffs to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006.

In 2014, Van Bree was part of the Dutch Team under 18. During the European Championship that year, Van Bree averaged 7.8 points and 4.5 rebounds. He finished his three-pointers against 38.1%.

Geert Hammink, coach of Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden Basketball, is very pleased with the latest addition to the Leiden formation. “I got to know Luuk a bit better in the past two weeks. I think it fits perfectly in the picture we have in mind. Luuk is a very good and versatile player, who can be deployed in multiple positions. It is also very important that Luuk has the mental characteristics that will make Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden Basketball better as a team. ”

Van Bree sustained an Achilles tendon injury in the summer of 2019, which prevented him from playing in a league as a club. “I worked hard on my recovery in the past year. That makes me completely fit and ready to start. I am very happy with the opportunity that Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden has given me. I can't wait to play in a hopefully full Five May Hall! ”

In the coming weeks, Geert Hammink and the technical staff will continue to fill in the selection of Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden Basketball for the 2020-2021 season. Marijn Ververs, Worthy de Jong and Troy Koehler have been recorded before.

Luuk van Bree tore his achilles tendon shortly after he graduated from Bradley in 2019, and spent a year recovering and rehabbing. Then last summer he signed to play pro with the ZZ Leiden team in his native Netherlands, as noted above. Their season has gotten off to a slow start because of the Covid problems in Europe, and Luuk just played his first game on Saturday (Jan. 16). In his first game, Luuk came off the bench to play 19 minutes against Groningen, the team Rienk Mast played for a couple seasons ago, and Donte Thomas played for last season. Groningen is one of the league favorites, but ZZ Leiden, thanks to Luuk's 19 points, and 5-6 from three, upset them 98-67. Nice performance for Luuk's first pro game!
