And look for the ACC to seek to keep up by wooing football/basketball schools like WVU, Cinci, UCF, and possibly Memphis and Nebraska.

West Virginia seems like a good choice for the ACC to go after, especially now that the Big 12 is about to disintegrate.
But, I don't see Nebraska leaving the Big Ten. Yes, they have expressed dissatisfaction about a number of Big Ten decisions, like their decision not to play football last fall which was eventually reversed. But even with mediocre football and basketball programs, their athletic department brings in over $136 million per year, which is probably more than they would generate in the ACC.
These revenue numbers are probably pretty accurate... Nebraska is #21

Isn't the Big 10 the most lucrative conference in the NCAA?

The top 5 "Power Conferences" all generate massive revenue amounts, far more than any other conference. But the last couple years the Big Ten has been the #1 conference, and the SEC was #2.
Revenues for each conference can vary dependent on how many teams from that conference get into postseason play and how far they advance in the revenue-generating sports of men's football and basketball. But TV rights are also a big source of revenue, and the Big Ten TV deal is the most lucrative of the Power 5 deals.
Back in 2014-15 it was the SEC that lead conferences in revenue-

And as recently as 2017, there are articles reporting the SEC was #1-

But since 2017, the Big Ten has been reporting the top revenue-

The Big Ten reported more than $780 million in revenue, most of any conference, as Power Five had more than $2.9 billion in revenue in fiscal 2019.

And even in the Covid year of 2020, Big Ten revenue exceeded the SEC- https://www.si.com/college/indiana/f...evenue-indiana

If Texas and Oklahoma bolt for the SEC, it could move back to #1.

It's an exciting time. Either the rest of the B12 band together and backfill or the B10/SEC/ACC/P12 pick off the other top ones and ISU/KSU/OSU might be forced into the AAC or something. The basketball-only conferences like the Valley/BE/A10 seem unlikely to be impacted but it's possible if UConn leaves the BE or the AAC needs replacements.

Thanks for the detailed info, Coach. I think I remember reading at one time that the reason the Big 10 chose Rutgers and Maryland was to expand their coverage to the east coast to increase national interest and revenue. I remember thinking how much more fun it would have been to add teams like Missouri and Kansas and being disappointed.

Makes you wonder why Notre Dame has turned them down so many times.

ND has turned down the B10 because the B10 wants them to give up their exclusive NBC contract. The ACC let them keep it so they went there.

Oklahoma State will always be welcome to rejoin the Valley (I know, will never happen).
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

ND is only in the ACC basketball though, right? They aren't currently part of their football conference?

Well the ACC and ND relationship in football is complicated. The Irish were actually full ACC members last year and played Clemson in the ACC title game but that was necessitated by Covid. Generally they play 4-5 ACC teams and share the ACC's bowl tie-ins but maintain "independence" to keep their separate TV contract and have schedule flexibility to keep playing their traditional rivals (Navy, Mich, USC, Stanford)

Oklahoma, Texas to become SEC members in 2025

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) announced Friday it has granted membership to the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Austin starting on June 1, 2025.

I'm guessing the Big XII will be going to court and maybe to the TX and OK state legislatures.

Rumor is that Kansas may not wait around for the demise of the Big 12. They are reportedly trying to cut a deal with the Big Ten.

Iowa State has also reportedly reached out to the Big Ten, but apparently there is not as much interest in them.
