  • Update on former BU players who left prior to last year

Update on a few former Bradley players who still have eligiblity left or who played this past season elsewhere-

As noted elsewhere, Sean Houpt transferred to D2 Florida Tech where he will be a sophomore next season, and Stephan Gabriel transferred to Hutchinson CC for his sophomore season in 2020-21.

Lou Griffith spent his freshman season at Bradley (2016-17), then eventually transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, New York. They are a very good Division II program. Lou redshirted a year, then has played the last 2 seasons at St. Thomas Aquinas. In 2018-19 he came off the bench to average 7.9 ppg and shoot 38.3% from three for a 25-7 team. In 2019-20 he averaged 8.0 ppg and shot 38.0% from three as the team went 25-5. He has one more season of eligibility there.

Jayden Hodgson played his senior season in 2019-20 at Grand Valley State, a D2 school in Allendale, Michigan, where he transferred in 2018 after his junior year at Bradley. He was the starting point guard for GVSU, and played the second most minutes of any player (30.9 mpg). He averaged 7.1 ppg, and 3.2 assists per game. GVSU finished the season 23-7 overall, and 15-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They finished in 1st place in the Southern Division, and were the #2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament, but were upset in the semifinals.

Scottie James played his senior season at Liberty University where he transferred in 207 after his freshman season at Bradley. Liberty finished the 2019-20 season 30-4 and 13-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. They swept through the ASUN Tournament, and would have gotten an automatic bid to the NCAA if it had not been cancelled. Scottie had a great career at Liberty. Here are his stats-
    https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba.../scottie-james

Ronnie Suggs transferred to Missouri after his sophomore season at Bradley (2017), but then after playing one season at MIzzou, he was a grad-transfer and played his senior season at SIU in 2019-20. After missing the first 6 games due to injury, he started and every game and played a key role for the Salukis, who went 16-16, and 10-8 in the MVC. Here are Ronnie's stats-
    https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...8/ronnie-suggs

Armon Brummett transferred to Danville Area Community College after his freshman season (2018-19) at Bradley. He had a great year at DACC, averaging 14.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and 1.9 apg.
    Stats- https://stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/...onbrummettqsir
Armon has committed to play basketball next season at William Penn University, an NAIA school in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They are one of the top NAIA basketball programs in the country. They were 30-3 last season, and had a 12-game winning streak heading into the NAIA National Tournament last March. They were a strong favorite to win the NAIA National Championship when the tournament was cancelled because of Covid-19.

Incidentally, his twin brother Amir Brummett, who like Armon, was an outstanding football player at Decatur MacArthur HS, has also committed to William Penn University, but he will play football there-

Chudier Bile transferred to Northwestern State (Louisiana) after spending only a few weeks enrolled at Bradley in the summer of 2018. He sat out the 2018-19 season, then played for Northwestern State in 2019-20. He lead the team in scoring with 14.3 ppg, and in rebounding with 7.6 rpg, and he shot 37.6% from three. Instead of hanging around for his senior season, he decided to transfer as a grad-transfer, and had a lot of interest and offers. He has transferred to Georgetown where he will play next season.

Antoine Pittman left Bradley after the 2018-19 season and transferred to Maryville University in St. Louis for his final season of eligiblity. He missed the first few games with an injury, then played well in the 4 games he played after that. He averaged 9.3 ppg and 4.3 rpg in 4 games. One of the games he played in was the December, 10, 2019 game against Bradley at Carver Arena-

However, shortly after that game, a combination of injury problems and other issues caused him to leave the team. I did see Antoine at a couple Bradley games this season, and he was in St. Louis to support his friends on the Bradley team as they won the MVC Tournament.

JaMir Price spend a couple months in the summer of 2019 working out with the Bradley team, but then left and enrolled at Quincy University prior to the 2019-20 season and was initially listed on their 2019-20 roster. However, he left the Quincy team before ever playing any games. I believe he is still in school somewhere, but I have not been able to confirm where.

Other earlier Bradley player who left were profiled in past threads-

Another update on former players who are still playing college ball-
Sean Houpt, who was a freshman at Bradley in 2019-20, is now at Florida Tech (Florida Institute of Technology), a Division II school in Melbourne, Florida. He will be a sophomore this season. Florida Tech was 11-17 last year, and 5-15 in the Sunshine State Conference. They have not released their 2020-21 schedule yet. Sean is #11 on the roster-

Stephen Gabriel, who played his freshman season at Bradley in 2018-19, is now at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, a member of the Jayhawk Conference, one of the top junior college conferences in the country. After sitting out last season, he will be a sophomore this season. Note that one of his teammates is #20 Isaiah Bujdoso, who played his freshman year at Loyola (2018-19), and is also now a sophomore at Hutchinson.
Stephen is #3 on the roster-

Lou Griffith, who played his freshman season at Bradley in 2016-17, transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York. They are a very good Division II program, and finished 25-5 last season and 13-3 in the East Coast Conference, finishing 2nd. They won the ECC Tournament and made the NCAA Division II Tournament, but unfortunately, never got to play a game before it was cancelled.
Lou redshirted one year there, then has played the last 2 seasons at St. Thomas Aquinas. In 2018-19 he came off the bench to average 7.9 ppg and shoot 38.3% from three for a 25-7 team. In 2019-20 he averaged 8.0 ppg and shot 38.0% from three as the team went 25-5.
Lou graduated last spring and will be in his final season of eligibility as a graduate student this season.

Armon Brummett, who played his freshman season at Bradley in 2018-19, spent last season at Danville Area Community College. He had a great year at DACC, averaging 14.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, and 1.9 apg.
    Stats- https://stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/...onbrummettqsir
Last we heard, Armon had committed to play basketball next season at William Penn University, a very good NAIA program in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
    https://www.wandtv.com/decaturs-armo...dc335ef7f.html
However, this year's basketball roster at William Penn does not show Armon on the team, though I think he may still be at William Penn.

His twin brother Amir Brummett, who committed to William Penn to play football, does appear on the William Penn Football roster as a redshirt player-

He graduated after the 2019-20 season, and transferrred to Georgetown as a grad-transfer where he'll play for head coach Patrick Ewing.
He is #4 on their 2020-21 roster-

Georgetown was picked #11, and dead last in the Big East Preseason poll-

JaMir Price spent a couple months in the summer of 2019 working out with the Bradley team, but then left and enrolled at Quincy University prior to the 2019-20 season and was initially listed on their 2019-20 roster. However, he left the Quincy team before ever playing any games. He stepped away from basketball and did not play anywhere in 2019-20 as he dealt with personal issues, including the death of his mother. But he is now enrolled at Mineral Area College, a community college in Park Hills, Missouri. He will be a freshman this season. Mineral Area was one of the top junior college programs in the country last year. They finished 30-2, and were ranked #5 in the country. They return 3 starters and 3 of their top 5 scorers from last year.

There are a couple other former Bradley players who have some eligibility left-
Ryan Stipanovich played his freshman season at Bradley in 2017-18. He transferred to University of Missouri, but has given up playing basketball.
Jerome Merritt was on Bradley's roster in 2016-17 as a redshirt freshman. He transferred to College of Central Florida, a junior college in Ocala, FL, and played the 2017-18 season there. He averaged about 5 ppg as a redshirt freshman there. But then he apparently left school and did not play anywhere in 2018-19. But then in 2019-20, he was enrolled as a junior at St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, NC (a Division II school). He did not play last season and isn't listed on their 2019-20 roster, but this article shows that he was a junior last season on the St. Augustine's team-
    https://www.st-aug.edu/sau-mens-bask...straight-year/

St. Augustine's has not posted their 2020-21 roster yet, so we don't know if he is still there or whether he will be playing for them this season. He would have one season of eligibility left.

Followup on the former Bradley players in the above post. Most have not played any games yet-
Sean Houpt is on the Florida Tech roster, but they have not played any games yet, and have not even released a schedule yet.
Stephen Gabriel is at Hutchinson CC, but they have not played any games yet, either.
Lou Griffith is a graduate-senior at St. Thomas Aquinas College. As with Houpt and Gabriel, St. Thomas Aquinas has not played any games yet.
Armon Brummitt- William Penn is 11-0 to start the 2020-21 season, but Armon Brummitt is not on the roster and not playing anywhere.
      Chudier Bile has appeared in 7 of Georgetown's 8 games as a reserve. He's averaging 16.7 mpg, 6.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 36% FG%, and 27% from 3.
JaMir Price is at Mineral Area CC in Missouri, but they aren't scheduled to play their first game until January 20, 2021.
Jerome Merritt was at D2 St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, NC, but they appear to have cancelled their 2020-21 season.

Another update on the former Bradley players who still had eligibility and played this season-

Sean Houpt is a sophomore at Florida Tech (Florida Institute of Technology), a Division II school in Melbourne, Florida. Because of Covid issues, most of their schedule was cancelled, and they have only played 4 games this season, with 2 scheduled games remaining-

In the 4 games they played, Sean is the team's second-leading scorer with a 15.5 ppg average. He is 8-25 from three

Stephen Gabriel is a redshirt-sophomore at Hutchinson CC in Kansas, and they have now played 13 games after getting a late start to the season. Stephen has started 11 of the 13 games, and averages 9.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg. He is 6-24 from three.

Lou Griffith is a graduate-senior at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY. They did not play their first game until Feb. 3, but they are now 12-1.
They won their conference tournament semifinal game to advanced to the championship game Sunday (3/7).
        Schedule- https://www.stacathletics.com/sports...20-21/schedule

Lou has started 7 of their 13 games, and averages 8.8 ppg, and 39.3% on three pointers.

Chudier Bile is a junior at Georgetown. Georgetown was picked last in the Big East preseason poll, but DePaul claimed that spot. They are 9-12 overall, and 7-9 in the Big East, and they finished 8th out of 11 Big East teams. Bile started 9 of 20 games, and averaged 10.5 ppg and 4.9 rpg, and he shot 42.9% from three. Georgetown will start the Big East Tournament Wednesday, March 10 as the #8 seed playing #9 seed Butler in the first round.

Of all those mentioned I think Gabriel had the most potential. Such athleticism and skill that we saw in his short stint with the Braves.
Antoine Pittman was one of my favorite Braves in the early years of the Wardle era and got to meet him after a game and seemed a very kind and likable young man.

Had Bile stayed and bought in, he would have been a big part of the last two teams.

Man alive, LB - you ain't kiddin'. That kid took it to the rim every time he got the ball. Man was he aggressive. I remember going to a game where he was on the floor with Childs and Henry and was looking forward to a future with that combination on the floor at the same time for an extended period of time. I believe in BW and I'm sure there are good reasons for him not sticking, but its hard not to think about what could have been if he had stuck around.

Lou Griffith's team, St. Thomas Aquinas, won today to take their conference (the ECC) championship, their 5th in the last 6 seasons. The win guarantees St. Thomas Aquinas a bid to the Division II national tournament.

Jamir Price is now a sophomore for Mineral Area CC, the same school Malevy Leons starred for last season.

Jamir averaged 8.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg, and 1.9 apg last season on a highly ranked juco team that went undefeated through the regular season last year.

Chudier Bile's Georgetown team finished the regular season with a 9-13 record and entered the Big East Tournament as the #8 seed. But they won 4 games in 4 days to win the Big East Championship and secure a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Bile only averaged 5 points in the first 3 tournament games, but then he had a team-leading 19 points in Georgetown's 73-48 win over Creighton in the Championship final game. His averages are 10.2 ppg and 5.1 rpg.

He's averaging 21.3 ppg on 66% FG shooting- good enough to be in the top-25 in all of NJCAA juco basketball

another former Bradley recruit, from Peoria Manual, Romon Douglas-Watkins signed with Long Beach State and was initially on their 21-22 roster,
but now he is no longer on their roster - perhaps redshirting or ineligible.
But he is still there since he Tweeted "Woke up today feelin Motivated probably bc my boys play UCLA today" ..and Long Beach State is playing #2 ranked UCLA tonight.

But he is still there since he Tweeted "Woke up today feelin Motivated probably bc my boys play UCLA today" ..and Long Beach State is playing #2 ranked UCLA tonight.

This doesn't bode well for his future.

Very sad... he worked very hard to overcome a serious injury, and took a long time to finally get back to Division I.

Lou Griffith graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas after last season and it appears he did not return for his extra year of eligibility. Here is St. Thomas Aquinas' 2021-22 roster, and he is not listed-

He spent a season at Lincoln junior college, then finished his career at Division III power St. Thomas Aquinas College in New York.
He is now getting into the coaching profession. He just tweeted that he will be a graduate assistant at Division III North Park University in Chicago.

North Park is a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), the same conference that Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana, and Millikin compete in. North Park has a great history in men's basketball, with five D3 National Championships in their past (1978, 1979, 1980, 1985, & 1987). But they just changed their head coach after 5 losing seasons in a row. Their new head coach is Sean Smith.

Congratulations and good luck to Lou!
