  • Sean Houpt transfers to Florida Tech

Former Bradley player Sean Houpt has signed to play at Florida Tech (Florida Institute of Technology), a private Division II school in Melbourne, Florida.

The Florida Tech Panthers were 11-17 last season, but they return 4 of their 5 starters, and 6 of their top 7 scorers next season. They were not s great 3-point shooting team (31.5% team 3-point %), so Sean should fill a needed role for them.
He will play for head coach Billy Mims at Florida Tech. He is a veteran coach who has been head coach at Florida Tech for 15 years, has been a head coach overall for 34 seasons, and a college coach for 39 seasons. Ironically, Mims was an assistant coach at Winthrop University and signed Sean's dad, Ted Houpt, as a player in 1986.

They are members of the Sunshine State Conference, a pretty good Division II conference which includes 11 private D2 schools in Florida.

    Congratulations to Sean!

Wish him luck and a good career.

I wonder if Wardle will look for someone to replace him.

      We don't know, yet.
Coach Wardle has had one or more walk-ons every season he has been at Bradley, except the 2018-19 season when former walk-on Pete Hanley was awarded a scholarship for his senior season.
      Bradley walk-ons under Coach Wardle-
2015-16- De'Angelo McBride and Pete Hanley
2016-17- Lou Griffith and Pete Hanley
      2017-18- Pete Hanley
2018-19- officially none- Pete Hanley received a scholarship after Chudier Bile left before the season started
2019-20- Sean Houpt and Riley Burger
2020-21- ??? - no announcement yet if Riley Burger will return or if another walk-on will make the roster

The 2020-21 team will have more depth than any previous Wardle team, so adding a walk-on will not be as needed. Hopefully Riley Burger will return. But as we have seen numerous times in past years, it is not uncommon for walk-on players to leave after a year or two (Sean Houpt, Lou Griffith, DeAngelo McBride, Jackson Kane, Jimmy Gavin, James Robertson, and many others)
