He has since received many high major offers, and committed to Illinois. He also left Manual after his freshman year and transferred to Chicago Morgan Park HS. Today, he was named the 2020 Illinois Mr. Basketball.

He is the 5th Peoria native to receive the award, though the previous 4 all played their entire HS careers in Peoria.
Howard Nathan of Manual HS was the 1991 Mr. Basketball
Sergio McClain of Manual was the 1997 Mr. Basketball
Frank Williams of Manual was the 1998 Mr. Basketball
Shaun Livingston of Peoria Central was the 2004 Mr. Basketball

The 2020 Illinois Miss Basketball is Maine West’s Angela Dugalic.

By the way coach, you did a great job with the nicknames on Roger’s show this morning but nobody mentioned who Alfonso Carrasquel was.

Thanks Chico! But, we were just doing the 1958 Yankees, the team that Peorian Zack Monroe pitched for and has a World Series Championship ring from.
We should do a whole show on other unique nicknames from the players of that era. :)
Chico Carresquel, followed by "Little Louie" Aparicio and "Nellie" Fox were my favorite White Sox players from my early childhood.
They inspired me to want to be an infielder when I started playing Little League.
I assume Chico was your favorite?

We really need baseball to come back!

Sorry about that. Turned it on in the middle of the conversation. For some reason I was White Sox fan but never really had a favorite player. My next door neighbor, Bill Fuquay, who by the way was a star quarterback and pitcher for Peoria Manual, was 4 years younger than me but I had convinced him to be a White Sox fan. We used to toss the ball around about every day. One day he threw me a ground ball and said “ground ball Chico”. Stuck with me ever since. I still remember sitting at the dinner table and the guy on the radio, no tv yet, said the White Sox had just traded Chico to the Indians for Larry Doby.
