He was a starter at UMass as a freshman (started 20 of their 30 games), and was 4th on the team in scoring at 9.3 ppg. He lead the team in assists with 5.0 per game, and shot 32.1% from three. There is a good chance he can get a waiver and be eligible next season.

Those involved believe it will happen, though nothing is guaranteed. I don't know those details, but last year they expected Danya to get the waiver, and it happened.

Though his 3-point shooting at UMass was only 32%, He is a much better perimeter shooter than that suggests. He shot 43% from three and averaged over 20 ppg and 8.3 assists per game at the Combine Academy prep school.

A friend of mine who knows things believes the NCAA is going to allow the one time transfer without sitting. Obviously nothing is for sure but I hope this is the case.

He shot only 32% from three, but 78% from the free throw line. Which generally indicates a stronger shooter than what he converted from three. There are obviously exceptions, but high free throw is usually directly connected to good perimeter shooters.

Also, according to that site’s strength of schedule tool, UMass had a much more difficult schedule than we did. So 9 and 5 might play better even better here.

After watching the umass freshman video East looks like the "King of the Floater." It will be hard to block his shot! It is also nice to watch a video against D1 competition knowing he will only get better.

His video is very encouraging. This is a giant get, especially since it hits a huge need, provided he is eligible immediately. It looks like we will be bigger, more athletic, and most assuredly deeper next year. It will be difficult to replace Brown and Kennell, but I think we will have more shot creators. Hopefully that leads to a more efficient offense. And more size and athleticism should mean a better defense as hard as it is to top this last years defense. My entirely too early, definitely biased prediction has Eli as POY, Ville as most improved, East as newcomer, and Bradley winning the regular season outright.

After spending a few hours at the UMASS basketball message board, I know why Sean left UMASS. Despite having a solid freshman season, the UMASS coaches somewhat forced him out. They just got a commitment from Wichita State transfer PG Noah Fernandes, but the big development was the commitment from borderline top 100 player, PG Javohn Garcia. Garcia is expected to be an instant starter, and Sean East's minutes would have dropped next season. Sean started out strong this past season, then hit a slump (losing his starting role), then had a solid finish. Hopefully Sean finds a better fit here at Bradley.

Dave Reynolds' updated article mentions that Sean had "offers from Creighton, New Mexico, Colorado State, Southern Illinois among others".

East chose Bradley over offers from Creighton, New Mexico, Colorado State and Southern Illinois, among others. His departure from UMass was a result of a roster numbers game. East believed his best option was to transfer. Since Bradley is much closer to his hometown of Louisville, the waiver to play right away should be an easier sell.

This sounds like a really good recruit. I sure hope he gets the waiver to play next year. It is rather wild that we will now have 4 left handers on the roster-Childs, Hannah, Linke and East. Can’t ever remember a team with many lefties.
