Roth question...what's to think about...shouldn't this be a no-brainer??? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Between Bradley and IU for basketball...what in the world can this kid be thinking??? Isn't this a bit like saying "I'm down to 2 schools for football...Notre Dame and Evansville"??? Again, I just don't get it???

Wow...what a poor comparison...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bradley has a very good basketball right now. Evansville doesn't have football.

Not so fast
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He stated in an interview that he needed to decide if he wanted to be a role player at a big 10 school or play alot at a mid-major. I think he knows exactly what his options are add its a tough decision!

True, but it will be interesting to see
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
whether Les can keep up the success of the last couple years now that Chuck Buescher is retired. He got a heck of a lot of credit for helping Bradley turn around their season the year they made it to the Sweet 16. Of course getting O'Bryant back for the second half that year helped a heck of a lot, too.

I'd say more like comparing football
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
at Ohio State and IU. Bradley does have a nice basketball program in a high level conference. Granted-- it's not IU, but to compare it to a school which hasn't had football in 20 years is a little much.
It really boils down to if the kid wants to be a big-fish or a role player at a high profile program. It's a tough choice for sure to 'decide' to play second fiddle just so you can be along for the ride. He'll most likely never be a 30 minute a game player at IU.

Roth question
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is the old "little fish in a big pond or a big fish in a little pond question"

Maybe if you live in a one-dimensional world....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
but what about: Playing time, distance to mama's home cooking, desired field of study, size of campus (can you spell Larry Bird?), proximity to Cubs games (certainly if we are recruiting him he CAN'T be a Cardinals fan!-), proximity to girl friend, church, etc..
Heck, I was ready to ditch a great internal auditor position with Georgia Pacific in lieu of a public accounting offer from a little company in Houston- yes, dumpy Houston. Why? The 'glory' of public accounting, never mind if it was a good fit for me or that I found Houston to be a nauseating city. It's not a no-brainer by any means. I don't want this young man to commit to us only to decide a year or two later that he made a mistake and wants out. Let him take his time and make the right decision, and if it turns out to be Indiana, THEN we'll be very happy about it.

The more some posters bother to point out various reasons...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
why some players might prefer other programs to IU, the less it sinks in on those posters who can only see things through the eyes of their own agenda. He is trying to decide what is best for him, not what is best for IU and there are some good arguments for each school (see posts below). I'd be happy to see him at IU and I can see him being a key sub early on, but the kid will end up doing what is best for himself and his family, whatever he decides that may be.

Let's see, how's this scenario...I live in Indy and I'm down to
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Butler & Mich. St.....I am 15 minutes from home or I can go 3 hours away from home. Both have been in the NCAA tourney the last few years. Both have solid coaching staffs. Both have good academics. Looks like a tough call to me.
Don't under estimate Bradley. Jim Les is a decent young coach. This is a tough call for this kid

I think it's time for a Matt Roth appreciation thread......
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
we need to let him know that we WANT him at IU rather than TELLING him how to make HIS decisions (assuming he or any of his friends and family read these boards).....
