Missouri State's Drew Richards, who was highly rated recruit by some in 2004 when he came out of Rogersville, Missouri. He was the Player of the Year, edging out Sam Singh.
This year he will be a senior at MSU, and he has yet to distinguish himself for the Bears.
Richards attended the Pete Newell Big Man Camp in Las Vegas. Patrick O'Bryant was first noticed by NBA scouts when he stood out at the camp 2 years ago before his sophomore season.

And here is a blog that has an update on Jamar Smith. Now Bruce Weber is saying the announcement that was to come next Wednesday might be delayed even further.
I can understand why. They obviously haven't had enough time since the event last February to decide what to do! --

Bryce Webster, the top recruit for Dan Monson and Jim Molinari in their last year at Minnesota is transferring--

Mike DeCourcy blog suggests the US international teams need to select players who can shoot. No kidding!--

In three years that I have been hearing about how good Drew Richards is and is going to be, I am still a bit skeptical.
Maybe this is the season he will convince me, but here are some facts about Drew.

He wasn't a starter until his junior year.
Last season he started almost every game (32 of 33), and got 20 mpg, yet still averaged only a little more than 7ppg, 4 rpg.
He averaged less than 1 assist per game, unusual for a big man on a team with guys like Ahearn, Laurie, and Chaney to kick it out to. In fact his assist total on the season was the least among ALL players who averaged even 8 mpg.
He has never taken a 3-pointer, and hits only 42% of his FTs!
Oh, and one more thing....in just under 20 minutes per game, he racked up 105 total fouls on the season, ahead of everyone else in the Missouri Valley, except Zach Andrews, who at least was able to stay in the game more minutes and have almost double the scoring and rebounding stats.

He may be a tall player but he is a very slow to the ball which is why he has trouble scoring and rebounding.

Collins played against Drew earlier this summer!

Does anyone have any stats from those games? I heard from a MSU fan that Drew pretty much scored at will on David - can anyone verify that?

          Drew "scored at will"?
I checked the box scores of all the MSU games, and couldn't find any game all season that could be described as scoring at will.
Drew was MSU's leading scorer in only two games, one was a 27 point early season blowout of Santa Clara, but Drew had 12 pts on 5 baskets and was 2-9 on FTs.
Then against Bradley he was one of 3 players with 16 pts, one 6 baskets over 26 minutes, hardly scoring at will.
In that game Zach Andrews had 7 baskets, and I ouwld think you'd say Zach scored at will.

Well - if DeP heard Drew Richards tore up D Collins in a summer game or two - then so be it. I doubt there will be box scores to link to from summer pick up games.

So what would it mean? Heck - I recall Falker having his way with OB because of his mobility vs OB. (and Jordan tore up NBA big men cause they couldn't move as fast as he could) STILL - a big man like OB and Collins will greatly improve a team in the MVC and in the post-season in the long run.

Looks like the post said he scored at will against Collins and said nothing about scoring at will during the season.

I am curious when and where Drew would have played against David Collins. Collins has been on campus at BU since June, and I have never before heard of any games or scrimmages where the two would have faced each other.
In fact, I am downright skeptical any such summer league exists where they'd face each other, as David Collins did NOT play in any such league and came right to BU's campus as soon as he completed all his course work at juco.
The only summer league (as referenced on the MSU board) that Drew Richards played in, didn't start until after the 4th of July.

By the way, since this thread already includes miscellaneous college basketball news, here's some more.
WMBD did a report with video on Kevin Fay, the little brother of SIU's Carlton Fay, and also talks to Carlton a bit.
                        Here is the video link:

One other note in College Basketball...

University of North Carolina releases a basketball preview issue through scout.com
                          and it highlights Tywon Lawson

I think this has to be a bummer to Bobby Frasor who was likley hoping he'd get a shot at playing some point guad at UNC this season.
looks like he'll be second fiddle again..........
Hey Bobby..BU has an open scholarship!!

I didn't see this posted anywhere, but Duke's David McClure had surgery on his right knee and will be down for 6-8 weeks.

Duke junior forward David McClure will be out six to eight weeks following surgery Tuesday on his aching right knee.
