  • Bradley's 93 year old PATRIARCH JOE STOWELL (who has seen it all) Has to be Smiling

Joe Stowell - Bradley's 93 year old PATRIARCH and who has seen it all - HAS TO BE SMILING.
Joe Stowell who told tales as a young student sneaking into the old Peoria Armory to watch Bradley play.
Joe Stowell - member of the 1947-50 Bradley basketball teams.
Joe Stowell - who witnessed first hand "the last time" Bradley appeared in the NCAA 2 years in a row (1954, 1955).
Joe Stowell - who became a Bradley assistant coach in 1956.
Joe Stowell - who became Bradley's ninth head coach in 1965 and then color commentator with Dave Snell on WMBD radio in 1985.
Joe Stowell - who dedicated his life supporting Bradley Basketball.

I'll bet Joe is just as excited and smiling the next few weeks as all of us.

A quick personal story about Joe Stowell. In 2006 after Bradley's run to the Sweet 16 - I wrote a letter to Joe Stowell telling him how as a freshman in 1971 - I went to my first Bradley game - the first home game of the season - Bradley was playing the previous year Big 10 Champs University of Minnesota. I think Minnesota was ranked. Bradley won that game - and I had my first experience of Bradley magic inside "ear crushing" Robertson Memorial Field House. I told Joe that I have been hooked on Bradley Basketball ever since. Joe wrote back to me. I still have his letter.

How is Coach Stowell doing? It sure would be cool if he could travel with the team to the opening game as an honorary coach.

Humbles and Carruthers were one of my favorite Bradley guards combos of all time.
