  • TSN's DeCourcy narrows 2008 NCAA champion to 5

Mike DeCourcy of The Sporting News thinks the NCAA champion will be either Georgetown, Kansas, Memphis, North Carolina, or UCLA.

The latest news, videos, scores and more on the biggest sports, including NFL, NBA, MLB, NCAA, Soccer, Boxing, NASCAR and more with Sporting News

I think Kansas doesn't belong in that mix, because their key scorer, Brandon Rush, will not be the factor Kansas needs as he recovers from a serious knee injury.

If Bill Self is still their coach they wont win the NIT let alone the NCAA tourney.

What if you had the recruiting skills of Self and the in game skills of Weber?

I like Mike DeCourcy a lot, and I have a story as to why -

A couple years ago when BU was making its late-season run, DeCourcy was on the Mike North Morning Show on 670 AM and was talking about non-conference resumes, and cited BU's as one that maybe didn't hold up, and Western Kentucky's as one that did. Naturally, this enraged me, first because our RPI showed that we played a tough non-con, and second because we had BEATEN Western Kentucky. So, as soon as I got to a computer, I politely and tactfully emailed Mr. DeCourcy, introduced myself as a Bradley fan, and explained to him where I thought his arguments were flawed. To his credit, he not only emailed me back right away, but we proceeded to have a lengthy and in-depth factual and philosophical email discussion regarding BU, the MVC, and POB's chance of going pro (again, this was prior to the NCAA run, and DeCourcy felt very strongly that POB needed more college). He even asked me to provide him the articles of MVC coaches encouraging POB to go pro, as he thought that was a terrible thing for an opposing coach to do, and was considering writing a piece on it. Anyways, it left a very good impression on me as far as Mike's passion for college hoops, and his ability to not look at the game in a BCS vacuum all of the time. I would encourage anyone who has a question for him or disagrees with him to politely drop him a note. Chances are you'll get a great response, and maybe more!

Ha, ha, wasn't one of those Steve Merfeld, who if I recall stated in a post game comment that he really wanted to see POB go pro as soon as possible!

I don't recall Merf saying that, but I know for a fact that Turgeon, McDermott, and Hinson all said on TV and in the newspapers that he should go pro.
