  • 2020 MVC Coach of the Year- Ben Jacobson of UNI

I believe SIU's Bryan Mullins was on track to win the Coach of the Year award until SIU lost 5 of their last 6 games.
But today it was announced that the 2020 MVC Coach of the Year rightfully went to Ben Jacobson of UNI.
University of Northern Iowa head coach Ben Jacobson was named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year at a State Farm MVC Tournament luncheon on Thursday.

This was Jacobson's 4th COY award in his 14 seasons as head coach at UNI. Jacobson edged Mullins in a close vote-

How does Wardle not get votes over Lansing or Moser? He spent over half the conference slate without one of his top two players, and a few more games without DB or other key contributors.

Greg overachieved, he got a bad draw for his efforts tho. IMHO hes 2 behind Jake, the snubs continue for us. I hope it motivates and we leave St Louis with the accolades that matter the most again. Wardle should've been 3. Other than Eli on 2nd team. No credit given for the injuries what so ever. Which makes it all the more mindblowing. How does Eli get 2nd team over Nate? Who i feel should've been first team along with DBJ. The MVC tourney MVP from a season ago ,was out most the year. These two held it together and were one 4 foot shot that rimmed out from living up to expectations. Execute and prove yourselves again. #Back2Back .

You dont lose 5 of your last 6 and still be considered coach of the year. For the love of god lets kick Mullins ass tomorrow.

Yes, to the people who vote for COY, it is all about expectations vs. accomplishments. Bradley was picked 2nd, so finishing tied for 3rd is seen by the voters as underachieving (despite the injury factor which I suspect nobody considered).

Surprised McCarty didn't get any votes ...

In all seriousness, Wardle is definitely getting snubbed not seeing any consideration. With his success re-building the program, I'm starting to worry his stock is rising enough that some low power conference team might come knocking after next year.

It is also not a stretch to think that Coach K retires from Duke sooner than later, Wojo leaves Marquette to head his alma mater, and then Wardle ends up back at his before we know it.
