  • Is the NCAA starting to get it?

Maybe the NCAA is starting to understand that these are kids and some times exceptions need to be made. Glad they made the right move for this kid.

Wow... I dont know too much about this, but it seems to
    be a fair decision.
    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I remember watching this last year and the thrown elbow was ugly and definitely done on purpose. I thought the kid that threw the elbow should have been suspended for the year.

In the past the NCAA has been unbelievably inflexable when it came to situations like this. I am glad to see them give this kid back the time he had lost.

Assuming he gets the second semester back not the first. Doesnt seem to say what part of the season he gets to participate in.

If this kid or any request like this had come from BU or a mid-major, there would have been prompt denial.
Dig me up from my grvae if the NCAA ever grants any kind of a waiver like this to a BU kid like Daniel Ruffin, Jermaine Brown, Xavier Crawford, etc...

Well the title of the post is "Is the NCAA starting to get it" so I guess we dont know how the NCAA will act in the future only what they are doing presently and have done in the past.
            Can we start winning soon?

I agree...nobody knows what they will do in the future, but given the track record, I think most observers can feel pretty certain the pattern will continue.
In numerous cases of kids gaining eligibility like Beas Hamga, Eli Holman, etc....the one true consistency is that if they kid is going to a major school, he gets qualified, if he is going to a mid-major, forget it.
Wichita State just learned it the hard way yesterday.

              So did Drake

So did Loyola with Marvell Waithe

and so did BU with this kid and the several others I noted above plus Dwight Buycks

But schools like DePaul (Obi, Koshwal, Moses), UNLV (Hamga), Kansas (Brandon Rush), never seem to have to face a denial...

I have issues these challenges time and again, and nobody ever seems to come up with a single example of a major getting treated the same as the mid-majors...whether it be eligibility issues or penalties for major or minor violations

I don't know about the Drake one.....from what I've heard from reliable sources, Faines' decision was more about basketball (didn't want to redshirt his first year). We don't know if this was in any way related to NCAA requirements. I know that Drake's requirements are much harsher than the NCAA's.
