SIU will not have senior guard Aaron Cook, who broke his hand in their 6th game of the season and has never returned. It was recently announced that he will not attempt a return this season, will take a medical red-shirt, and return to play his final season next year.
Other than Cook, their leading scorer is freshman Marcus Domask (14.5 ppg & 5.3 rpg), who is a leading candidate to become MVC Freshman of the Year, and possible Newcomer of the Year (transfers Gage Prim of MSU and Tate Hall of Loyola also are candidates for NOY).
Other starters include senior guard Eric McGill (11.2 ppg), grad-transfer center Barret Benson (10.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg), freshman guard Lance Jones (7.3 ppg), and grad-transfer guard and former Bradley Brave Ronnie Suggs (5.5 ppg).
SIU's 3-point percentage is 33.4% which ranks 8th in the MVC, and their 62.6 ppg scoring average ranks #10 in the MVC. However, they are the top defensive team in the MVC as measured by points allowed (60.8 ppg).
