SIU had a crowd of 6,528 for their last home game (Sat. Feb. 8 vs. Missouri State). That was partly because they were the hottest team in the MVC and in the midst of a 7-game winning streak, plus they offered special discounted tickets, and a promotion with a pre-game rock concert and special giveaways to students.
That was their largest home crowd since a January 9, 2016 game against Wichita State. On that date, Wichita State was the overwhelming preseason favorite to win the MVC, but SIU came into the game undefeated in the MVC and with the best overall record (14-2) of any MVC team. Other than that game, SIU has not drawn very well for the last decade.
Their average attendance this year is only 4,355. And the Banterra Center holds over 8,300. I don't think the crowd Saturday will be as big as last Saturday's, coming off their disappointing loss at Valparaiso. The early start time, and the weather may also affect attendance. But it should still be bigger than they have averaged.
The ticket website still shows lots of good tickets available-
