  • Final score: Loyola 62 Bradley 51

Bradley's next game is Saturday, Feb. 1, 7:00 pm, at Gentile Arena on the campus of Loyola.
This game is on ESPN2, so anyone can watch for free.
Elijah Childs will likely miss this game as he has missed the last 7 games and 10 of the last 11 with a broken bone in his hand. He had his cast removed this past Monday, but will still need further healing and rehab before he is cleared to play. Darrell Brown and Ville Tahvanainen both looked healthy in the Valparaiso game, so they should be OK to play.

Bradley is now 15-7 overall, and 6-3 in the MVC after their home win over Valparaiso on Wednesday. Loyola is 14-8 overall, and 6-3 in the MVC after their 68-63 loss at Southern Illinois Wednesday. Loyola is 9-2 at home, and Bradley is 2-5 in road games.

Loyola's top scorer and rebounder is 6'9" junior center Cameron Krutwig (15.2 ppg & 8.3 rpg). The next 3 top scorers are all new players this year.
6'6" redshirt-junior Tate Hall (13.5 ppg) is a transfer from Division II U. of Indianapolis, 6'1" freshman guard Marquise Kennedy (9.4 ppg), 6'1" junior guard Keith Clemons (8.9 ppg--transfer from Vincennes Junior College. 5th leading scorer is 6'4" junior guard Lucas Williamson (8.7 ppg), who was a freshman on their Final Four team in 2018. Loyola is a good three point shooting team. One interesting statistic is that their center Cmaeron Krutwig leads the team in assists with 100 in 22 games (4.5 apg). No other player has more than 48 on the season. It indicates what a great passer their big man is. A high percentage of their open three point shots come from Krutwig being double-teamed inside, and then being able to find an open shooter.

Bradley is 36-27 all-time against Loyola, and Bradley has won 3 of the last 5 games between the two, including a win in the semifinal of last March's MVC Tournament. Bradley's last win in the Gentile Arena (formerly the Gentile Gymnasium) was January 13, 2016 in Coach Wardle's first season. That was the only win that BU team had in 16 games away from Carver Arena in that entire rebuilding 2015-16 season (1-12 in road games, 0-4 on neutral courts). And it was an incredible win with Bradley going scoreless for 12 minutes straight, trailing 53-51 in the final seconds after Loyola's future pro Milton Doyle missed 2 free throws, and then Bradley sophomore Donte Thomas nailed a three pointer from the corner to give Bradley the 54-53 win. That was a big confidence-building win for that 2015-16 team that included 10 freshman, some of whom would go on to win the 2019 MVC Tournament.

Be interesting to see how we try to shut down Krutwig with Eli out. Bar has been playing much tougher defense, but I just don't think he's heavy enough to block out Krutwig. Guessing we'll see a lot of Ari and hopefully he's up to the challenge and can keep Krutwig from pivoting to the basket and scoring at will. My novice scouting report on Ari is that he doesn't have the best lateral movement on D and can be taken advantage of by quick moves to the basket. He does seem to be improving every game, and hopefully we can get the Ari that showed up for the Indiana St. game. (Addendum: I suppose it's possible that coach could put Henry on him, but curious what everyone else thinks about that matchup as Henry's height would be a serious disadvantage there. He's certainly strong enough!)

Always tough to win on the road in the Valley, but we're the better team, so let's get it done!

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Anyone heading up for the game? I'm debating it but I have never been to Loyola before.

Yes, I'll be there with a few Chicago based friends.

Check to see if you can get a ticket first. It is reported to be a sellout.

There are some tickets available on Stubhub if you are willing pay more than face value-

The Bradley bench is in front of section 110, and note that the game is at 7 pm (the tickets are marked Time TBD).

It is a nice area of Chicago, right along Lake Michigan, north of downtown. There are a few restaurants in the area, and a couple parking decks.
We stay downtown, and take the Red Line subway train to the Loyola stop. The station is just a couple hundred feet from the arena.

Tommy and anyone else who is going, I will be in section 211L, row I, & seat 20 (it's on the aisle between 211 & 210). Stop and say hello if you find us.

Thanks for the info DaCoach. I will be in the Chicago area that night and was hoping to snag a ticket the day of. Is there any reasonable parking nearby? Or is the Red Line the easiest way to get there?

I think this game is winnable. Play like we did the other night, cut down on turnovers and don’t let the crowd get in our heads! Go Braves!

We'll definitely come find you, coach!

It is not hard to drive to the campus, but there are no direct Interstate routes all the way to the area of the campus. You need to drive a bit through the city of Chicago.
And getting a ticket at the game could be risky. I would advise buying it in advance, but it's your call.

                    Here are a couple maps-

This map shows you take I-55 to Lake Shore Drive, then drive north through Chicago to the Loyola campus. Because it is a Saturday night game, the traffic shouldn't be too bad, but I'd plan on about a 3 hour trip (zoom in to see more detail).

There are a couple inexpensive parking garages near the arena. On this close-up map, the Gentile Center is the Green marker, and the 2 available parking decks are the purple markers. The Red Line station is marked with the large blue M-

One other way that I use to go to Cubs games sometimes, because of the lack of parking near Wrigley Field- Get off I-55 just before you reach Lake Shore Drive at the 293A exit. Drive north a couple blocks to the Cermak-Chinatown Red Line Station. There is a large parking lot there, and from there you can get on the Red Line and travel north through the city to the Loyola station.

This is so far north in Chicago that finding SOME kind of parking nearby shouldn't be terribly hard. Also keep in mind the game is at 7PM. Lets say you get there at 6:30PM. If you park at a street spot, its $2 per hour. Free after 10pm.

So street parking will cost $7 for parking from 6:30PM until its free at 10pm.

                        Download the app here: https://parkchicago.com/
                        Put in your license plate.
Find the 6 digit parking ID on the parking sign nearest where you're parking. Pay in the app. Its really easy.

For me this game will come down to how we respond to their physical defense, taking care of the ball, and not doubling down on Krutwig too soon. He might be the best passing big man in college basketball and he will find the open man. If the refs lets this game get too physical we won't win.

Wow! A little free throw discrepancy. 30 for Loyola and only 5 attempts by the Braves. Seemed like the refs took us out of everything we wanted to do on defense.
