Big fight in Kansas-Kansas State game

A different look at how the fight started. With the score 81-59 in favor of Kansas and only a couple seconds left, a Kansas State player stole the ball as Kansas was dribbling out the clock, and tried to make a breakaway layup. But a Kansas player took offense, blocked the shot, and clobbered him, and then stood over him and taunted him. The fight ensued with a couple of the Kansas players mixing it up with Kansas State players, team personnel, and even fans.

Maybe you'd have to see the game as it played out - at least the final minute, but the JayHawk player looked to be the one at complete fault for this debacle.
K State guy was just playing hard to the end. ALL athletes should do that. They were losing anyhow - big whoop if you give up a meaningless deuce at the end!
Fine if the Kansas dude blocks it to make a statement, but absolutely NO need for taunting after that, which started the whole fight.

Here is a longer video that shows what happened after the brawl. The refs reviewed video, consulted, then ejected every player from both benches. The NCAA rule prohibits players from leaving the bench during any altercation, which every player on both benches did. Thus they were all subject to automatic ejections. Then they ruled that there was still 1 second left on the clock when a technical foul occurred and the fight started. There is a new rule this year that requires all games to be completed (to avoid issues with point-spread gambling). So they brought players from both teams back onto the court (it doesn't appear they are the same players who were playing prior to the brawl), the KSU player shot technical free throws, then KSU inbounded the ball to allow the final 1 second to expire. I am not sure why only a technical foul was called, since the Kansas State player who attempted the final shot was clearly fouled. So there should have also been regular foul shots. But the player who shot the technical free throws made 1 of 2, and the final score ended 81-60.
In the closing moments of Kansas State vs. Kansas, the Jayhawks' Silvio De Sousa stares down the Wildcats' DaJuan Gordon after a block, and the two teams bre...
The primary player involved for Kansas was Silvio De Sousa (#22). He threw punches, and even picked up a metal stool and appeared to be ready to clobber a Kansas State player with it, though he dropped it before hitting anyone. Below is a picture of him with the stool, which also shows Kansas assistant coach Jerrance Howard trying to restrain De Sousa.
So De Sousa will undoubtedly receive a significant suspension. Many other Kansas players were involved to various degrees, and every player who left the bench will probably get at least a 1 game suspension. The primary person involved for Kansas State was a player in street clothes (possibly James Love who is injured) who also appeared try to throw a punch or two, plus most Kansas State players also left their bench. There was a lot of pushing and pulling, and a few other non-players at the end of the court also got involved.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Yeah, De Sousa was a highly recruited kid that Kansas cheated to get (money was funneled to his family). He was suspended by the NCAA for 2 years, but the suspension was reduced to 1 year on appeal.
But he has been a bust at Kansas now that he's playing again. He plays mostly in garbage time and has averaged only about 3 points per game in his career.
Stats- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...ilvio-de-sousa
Suspending him or even dismissing him probably wouldn't hurt Kansas.

Paying off players, Coach thumbing his nose at the NCAA, and now an out of control team. I don't know what more you need than to give them the death penalty for 2 or 3 years, fire Bill Self. Also throw in getting rid of the University President. You cant tell me he does not know what Self is doing.Get rid of the BUM. They did at Penn State

Who is # 33? It looks like he is trying to stomp on somebody on the ground. Ok so can someone help me with this. I think most of the team got ejected for leaving the bench. Isn't there a rule if you leave the bench you are not allowed to play the next game? If so they have a TV game coming up on National TV

The suspension of Da Sousa by Bill Self is an obvious attempt at "damage control" by Self. But I expect the Big 12 Conference will issue a bunch more suspensions and other disciplinary rulings. The NCAA requires a 1 game suspension for any player that left the bench while an altercation was going on. And it could be as many as 4 games suspension if it was determined that a bench player left the bench and participated in the fight, which it appeared some did.
