While every one is going on about the quality of the actual sound coming out through the speakers, why is there no one questioning why the announcer has not changed any thing at all about how he delivers all of the way too much information he gives us at every opportunity through the entire game by supporting my claim he only wants and keeps this job to hear himself talk? Not trying to cause a problem. In the same thinking going behind how much a player changes and improves from freshman to senior, why is there not the same expectation and improvement going on here in this facet of the game?

I am not sure what your point is, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But if you are referring to the PA guy, I have to take issue.
I think he does a terrific and highly professional job as the PA guy. And as far as trying to promote himself, that is absurd. He doesn't need the job. In fact, he doesn't get a dime for his work. Paul is a Bradley grad and a successful businessman in insurance, and has done the PA job at Bradley games for 44 years and has never been paid. Like all the other incredible game-day crew members, he is a volunteer. Paul does it every game because of his love and dedication to Bradley, and he even volunteers his time and services for the state high school tournament games, and other events. Is he perfect? Maybe not for everyone, but who is? Bradley fans are fortunate to have Paul.

I know, Da Coach. I was simply throwing in some lightning in to the chat to discover if I was the only one who tires from being told when to stand up, how I should cheer, what the referee had for breakfast, what color the lights are outside if you catch where I am going with my a hint reaching description of just how much he tells us none of us need to know. 'Don't forget to stay standing for the first two minutes if the half'. Who does not already know this? 'Two minutes left in the half'. Again, how is there any one in the arena who does not already know this without being told? Have you noticed the speed of the same four songs being played by the band every game {Again hearkening back to the thought after four years of being in school, surely these kids have learned something new, haven't they?} is about three times the speed they should be in effect making it impossible for those who want to clap along impossible? You gave me a qualified simple answer to my first query. How about these state curiosities? Happy belated New Year!!!!!

I’ll pipe up and defend the band a bit... in the past I’ve played in the “Family and Friends” version and enjoyed it. There are a lot more than 4 different songs played... take time to count them... and each year Dr Vromann picks at least one or two new ones into the rotation. How many university sports bands are directed by the senior most member of the music department, a doctorate level music guy with like 40 years experience? And if you watch him work, he cares deeply about the quality of the product and he drives a hard bargain. In fact, you do not trifle with the good doctor. As for the songs that are repeated, well my friend that’s called tradition. Tradition is rampant everywhere in college sports. For some, tradition is boring. For others, it’s ESSENTIAL.Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been following the forum for the last 4 years. Great source of information and look forward to contributing to the conversation.
As for the PA announcer, he is very professional and does a great job. It does seem like he has more to announce this year before tipoff (which is likely due to additional corporate sponsors). But not a big deal.
The band is great. I always enjoy them during the games.

My two cents:
Can’t understand a word from the PA unless we sneak to center court where it seems to come through much more clearly. As far as the content, I’d say it’s as good or better than the PA at any other sporting event I’ve been to, and we do try to make it to a few away games every year, so I’ve got at least a little experience to speak from.
Dub’s input on the band was pretty hard to argue with. Isn’t BU usually one of the better bands nationally, as well? If you go to the MVC tournament in St. Louis, you’ll have a chance to see all the bands, and in my opinion, we are the clearcut best one by a long shot. I may be biased, but I think you’d be hard pressed to come to a different conclusion.
Back to the original point of this thread, the PA system is terrible and Carver arena needs to get it fixed.
Larry Bird
I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

The email I received from the Civic Center Customer Service rep stated sound tests were to be done last week. I don't know what adjustments were made but the sound quality seemed to be better to us. I don't think it is as good it was a couple years ago when my father-in-law was honored at center court but my wife and I both thought the sound quality was better last night compared to the previous games. I made a short recording of the Veteran presentation last night and emailed it to the Civic Center so they could hear what we heard. I appreciate their willingness to investigate the issue.
