The NIT Final featured Michigan of the Big Ten and South Carolina of the SEC. It was never really close as South Carolina outplayed Michigan, lead virtually the entire game and dominated offensively and defensively. This makes back-to-back NIT championships for South Carolina. They looked very good, while Michigan struggled to score against what looked like a mediocre zone defense by the smaller SC team. The only Michigan player who had a good game was Daniel Horton who scored with a variety of slashing moves to the basket.
