Walter McCarty, head coach of the Evansville men's basketball team has been placed on "administrative leave pending an investigation into alleged violation of the University's Title IX policy".
Assistant coach Benny Seltzer will serve as interim head coach.
The University President Chris Pietruszkiewicz sent out this statement-
"The University has received reports of unwelcome conduct by Coach McCarty since his arrival in March 2018," UE President Chris Pietruszkiewicz wrote in an internal letter to staff. "We have counseled him about his behavior. In the last two weeks, the University received a troubling report about Coach McCarty’s interactions with a member of the campus community. We have placed Coach McCarty on leave while that incident is being investigated."

A UE athletics spokesperson said the athletic department has no further comment at this time.
The statement that was sent out by the University President included a link to their "sexual harassment and misconduct policy".

The Evansville Courier & Press newspaper has a few more details-

Might explain the Aces' Jekyll and Hyde season with all this off court distraction. Hope there isn't a mass exodus because they have some talented guys and the Valley needs a strong Evansville.

I have been reading and hearing more rumors about Coach McCarty's conduct involving multiple young women, and don't want to repeat them, since we have no way of confirming them, yet. But it seems a lot of people knew about McCarty's proclivities. Anyone interested can look further on the Evansville message board or elsewhere.
But the statement put out by the University of Evansville President is extremely troubling itself-
"The University has received reports of unwelcome conduct by Coach McCarty since his arrival in March 2018," UE President Chris Pietruszkiewicz wrote in an internal letter to staff. "We have counseled him about his behavior. In the last two weeks, the University received a troubling report about Coach McCarty’s interactions with a member of the campus community. We have placed Coach McCarty on leave while that incident is being investigated."

The statement clearly implies that the University has had multiple previous reports of "unwelcome conduct" dating back to "his arrival in March 2018". That implies sexual advances that were unwelcome, and were reported to the University.
It means there are serious allegations or known inappropriate and "unwelcome conduct" that University knew about and even "counseled him about his behavior". Plus, now there is a new "troubling report" that was received "in the last two weeks". And if they are also invoking a Title IX violation, that means "discrimination based on sex". It's hard not to interpret that as some kind of threat or retribution in view of the other charges of "unwelcome conduct".

This is now a huge national story, and a massive embarrassment to Evansville. I don't see any way this gets resolved with simple punishment and reinstatement. IMO, to save face, Evansville needs to get this "investigation" done extremely quickly and cut their ties with this coach, asap.

And Coach McCarty suddenly deleted all his social media accounts when this latest news broke. Wonder why?

Seems like they knew something was up last year. Its a shame for their program, going from beating Kentucky to the coach being investigated.

No rumors have been confirmed officially, but there are multiple people posting the same shocking rumor (Disclaimer: I am not vouching for this rumor's accuracy). It seems the media could confirm the rumor if they wanted to, but so far, nobody has. If true, there is no way he could remain employed at UE, and it shouldn't take an investigation by an outside law firm. Unfortunately, in today's lawsuit-happy society, Evansville probably feels they need to do it this way to defend themselves against the inevitable lawsuit that would come.

Here is an article in today's Evansville Courier & Press, but it doesn't say anything new-

The Evansville fan message board shut down just hours after this news broke Friday, and the owner/administrator says he is deleting the site. Sad. That leaves Evansville as the only MVC team without a fan message board.

By the way, we have a page under the title Quick Links to Sites of Interest and other Message Boards that lists all the other MVC teams' official web pages and fan message board sites-

Gosh, this is turning into quite a fiasco. Entire message board deleted, multiple social media accounts deleted........not looking good for Walter.
