  • Good news regarding Elijah Childs and his return

The PJ Star is reporting that Elijah Childs' progress has been very good, and the team now expects he will return around the first week of January-

“We’re hoping for (around three weeks) right now,” Wardle said. “Everything is heading in the right direction. The X-rays have been good.”

Eli's injury occurred in the Georgia Southern game on December 15. Initially, it was said he would miss 3-6 weeks. If he were to return at about 3 weeks as Coach Wardle said, that would be January 5th. That rules him out for Bradley's next game, Saturday, Dec. 28 against Toledo, and probably for the first MVC conference game Tuesday, December 31, at home against Drake. But it leaves open the possibility he could return for the second MVC game Saturday, January 4th at UNI or maybe more likely the following MVC game Wednesday, January 8, at Evansville.

This is good news for Bradley, though we really could use Elijah for these next few games. Toledo will be a tough test for the Braves. They were the top pick in the MAC Preseason poll.
    BU vs. Toledo-

And the first 2 conference games, Drake (10-3) and UNI (11-1), are against the 2 teams with the best records so far among MVC teams, and UNI has, by far, the best RPI (21) and NET (23) among MVC teams.

Needless to say we need Elijah back ASAP! I’d have liked to see how the team could rally and replace his leadership and production, but after last game that curiosity has markedly faded. I never heard a definitive description of the injury. Did he suffer a break, and was it a metacarpal or a finger? The way he had the ice bag positioned after the game,I would have guessed metacarpal.
    Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

That’s really good news! Hope it only is the 3 weeks. We just need to take care of business and win these next two at home.

Sounds like the cast could come off as early as Monday:

"BU forward Elijah Childs confirmed Friday that the injury to his right hand was a broken middle finger suffered when he landed on it while falling nearly two weeks ago against Georgia Southern. “They thought it was a jammed finger at first and I went back in the game. But I was babying it and couldn’t do much so they took me out,” he said. Childs is hopeful he’ll get back into action as early as next week. Bradley opens its MVC season on Tuesday against Drake and travels to UNI on Saturday. “I’m going to see the doctor on Monday, so we’ll see,” he said. “I don’t know when I’ll get this (cast) off, but I know it’ll be real soon. They’ll buddy tape my two fingers together. When the time comes, I’ll be ready to go and be full Elijah Childs.”

Tommy doesn't like it when people speak in the 3rd person.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.
