With a little extra time in my hands over the holidays, I’m finally getting around to displaying some of my memorabilia, including my chunk of the field house floor. I’d like to print off and include a picture along with it. Does anyone have a favorite picture from within the field house that they’d like to share for this purpose?

I used to spot for the guy that operated the overhead individual scoreboards above the court on the student side. The last game they were in use was a national TV game against Louisville. A Louisville player picked up his 2nd foul but the scoreboard went past 2 and went to 3. We couldn’t stop it. Coach Crum took him out at that point, but then realized he only had 2 fouls. He was really upset. That was the end of the boards. What part of illegal don't you understand?

I talked to someone who had to repair those old boards, which malfunctioned frequently. Each player's line had several small solenoid mechanisms (similar to the mechanisms inside old pinball machines) that moved each of the categories for each player- FG (Field Goals), FT (Free Throws), TP (Total Points), and PF (Personal Fouls). There were 12 lines that accommodated 12 players' names, so there were at least 48 different solenoids in each of the 4 boards, and there may have been more. Plus there were lights next to each player's name that could be switched on & off to indicate which 5 players were on the floor at any given time, and there was additional circuits to light up the headers and the advertising signs attached to the top & bottom of the boards. It took several people to operate all the different variables that needed to be changed throughout the game. And, there was an extremely complex amount of wiring, internal electrical mechanisms, and control switches for each board, and there were 4 separate boards- 2 on each side of the court for home and away teams. In addition, there was a 4-sided center scoreboard (see photo below) that showed the game time and the score. They all could be lowered to change the names on them for each game, and to access them for repairs. Fans loved the boards because they gave more information than even the current state-of-the-art boards at Carver Arena give. But the electricians and maintenance people at Bradley hated them!
I'd love to hear if anyone knows what happened to them when they were removed. I have heard that some or all of them were bought by fans, but I have also heard that they were junked and scavenged for parts.
