  • Final score: Bradley 69 Norfolk State 57

Bradley is now 2-1 after their home win over UIC. The next game is Tuesday, Nov. 19 vs. Norfolk State at Carver Arena.
Note the start time is 6:00 pm. This game is part of the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament.

The Norfolk State Spartans are an HBCU who are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). They are currently 3-1, and their 3 wins have been by an average winning margin of 47 points! However, that is a bit misleading, since their 3 wins have been against:
Greensboro College 100-59 (a weak Division III school that was 3-22 last season)
Penn State Wilkes-Barre 93-53 (a tiny [500 students] even weaker non-NCAA, non-NAIA school that competes in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association [USCAA])
The Apprentice School 113-54 (a tiny [700 students] private shipbuilding school in Newport News, VA that also competes in a non-NCAA/non-NAIA organization of small schools, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association [USCAA])

Norfolk State's other opponent was University of Mississippi, and they lost to Ole Miss 68-55-

Schedule/results- note that after they Bradley on Tuesday, Nov. 19, their next game is at Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 22.

Norfolk State finished 22-14 least season, and they were 14-2 and finished in 1st place in the 2018-19 MEAC regular season. They were upset in the MEAC Postseason Tournament, and played in the 2019 NIT. In the NIT, they upset Alabama 80-79 in OT, then lost to Colorado 76-60 in the second round.
They were picked tied for 3rd in the 2019-20 MEAC Preseason Poll and had a couple 1st place votes.-

They are in a rebuilding year after losing their top 3 scorers from last season, and 7 of their top 8 scorers.
They have 6 freshmen, 3 junior college transfers, and 4 transfers from other 4-year schools on the roster.
This year's team has 4 players who average in double figures, and all four are guards. They are shooting 41.1% from three as a team, and are averaging 27 three point attempt per game, though nearly half of their 3-pointers come from just their top 2 scorers, Jermaine Bishop, a 6'1 redshirt senior transfer from St. Louis University, and Joe Bryant, Jr., a 6'1 sophomore.
Their other starters are Steven Whitley, a 6'3" redshirt senior guard who transferred from Robert Morris University, Spirit Ricks, a 6'8" junior forward who transferred from Allan Hancock College (CA), and Yoro Sidibi, a 6'7" freshman forward who started their first 3 games, but missed their last game with an injury. In place of Sidibi, Chris Ford, a 6'8" sophomore forward started their last game.

Can some pre-next-Monday game insights be made or observations before next Monday's game against Northwestern with these next 2 games. Both teams play Norfolk State and Radford either today and 4 days from now on their home courts before they meet in Florida. Norfolk State was picked # 5 in the MEAC preseason poll, and Radford was picked # 1 in the Big South. I am not trying to look ahead and Bradley needs to stay focused on their current opponent. But i will state that if either of these opponents cause either Bradley or Northwestern trouble (or even worst a loss) and the other team doesn't have similar issues with the same opponent - wouldn't that be interesting before Monday's game?

Bradley - stay focused - you have to play like you did during the second half of the UIC game and during last seasons MVC tournament and the NCAA first round. No one is going to give you the game - You Have to "Take It".... GO BRAVES !!!

Another poor first half tonight, but again, the team rallied a bit right before halftime, and played much better in the 2nd half to hold off Norfolk State. NSU has a bunch of quick, athletic kids, and their shifting defense had some effect on the poor offence by Bradley, but Bradley still misses too many open shots. And I can't remember seeing a Bradley team that struggles to make layups or finish at the rim like this team has so far.
Those are problems that hopefully will get better.

IMO, Koch Bar is the Player of the Game- 15 points, 8 rebounds, and a couple blocks.

Gonna have to play better all around to win on Friday I think. Team hasn’t truly gelled yet but when they do look out.
                        Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

Pretty balanced scoring tonight but gotta play better-in the first half Going to need to play 40 good minutes against the teams we have coming up.

I was surprised we saw very little of Gabriel in this game, and even more surprised we didn't see Childs, Brown, Kingsley, Gabriel, and Henry on the court at the same time at all considering how dominant they were in the UIC game.

I still maintain that Childs plays terribly when Bar is on the court with him. I'd love to see the +/- on that statistic to see if it's all in my head or not.
                            Larry Bird
I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

Imagine how much better Koch Bar would be if he understood the fundamentals of a proper pick and roll!
