I really like the signings. It will be funny that with Eli, Darius and Connor we will have three left handlers in the front line. Not good or bad just different.
It is extremely interesting that we will have so many lefties in our front court. I wouldn’t think that means anything, but maybe coach is looking for a certain uniqueness among our players? I would think he’s just looking for the best talents he can attract, but it wouldn’t be ridiculous to think that made these players more attractive to him.
That brings me to who I think our next signing targets should be. If rosters were set in stone, a point guard would be our most pressing need from a depth standpoint. With our 2 transfer sit outs and the 2 commits we currently have, the immediate needs are mostly met. Both transfers seem to be more combo guard rather than true point guards, so adding a second true point to Thomas would make sense. However, there have been transfers every year under Coach Wardle, mostly for the best. So I would think that he would be targeting the best player regardless of position at this point in the process. We could have 5 guys who can start at center next year (Boya, Mast, Linke, Hannah, Childs) so that would be the least pertinent need, but only Childs is a proven player so you could justify adding a center. Similarly, Kingsby, Nolan, McAdoo, and Thomas can all play point so a point guard would seem harder to justify, however only Thomas is purely a point guard that doesn’t make sense as an offball guard so you could make sense adding a point.
I would say adding a 6’5”-6’8” shooting wing a la Kennell or Jeremy Crouch would make sense. Tahvaneinen is the only player in that role, but it is also the easiest role to compensate for. Gabriel has shot well from 3 so far, he can fill in in that role. Mast appears to be great from three from the video we’ve seen, he can help spacing. Nolan and McAdoo have both made threes at a reasonable rate in their past at this level. A pure shooter isn’t needed if those guys can add enough other stuff.
All in all, I don’t think there’s a NEED for us with this last spot. We won’t be missing anything next year even if we just roll the roster over to next year as is. That obviously would hurt us long term and will not happen, but we could absorb it. I expect we won’t see any more commitments, and coach will fill that scholarship plus whichever transfers occur with need fills. I really like our transfers even without seeing them play in games yet, and I think it will be a confidence booster for the staff that they can address needs on the fly, so to speak.
On a secondary note, I think we’ll be even better as a team next year. We’ll lose Koch, who had improved immensely since getting to Peoria. But he still has noticeable flaws and I think one of the Mast/Linke/Hannah trio will be better than him immediately (my money is on either Mast or Linke). And, while no one will be better than Brown, McAdoo and Nolan combined with Kingsby and second year Thomas should be deep enough to replace him. I like where we are and feel like the sky is the limit with Coach Wardle at the reins.

Great post, ihatetea. The more I think about it, the last spot should go to a PG. You are right, the only true PG is Thomas. I haven't seen enough of him so far to know if he can step in and hit the ground running. A bigtime PG would allow us to be really good next year. We are strong everywhere else. Brown will be the hardest to replace.
