That game is still an NCAA record for the largest deficit before scoring in a game that the trailing team came back to win. It was January 27, 1977. New Mexico State was a member of the MVC then. Bradley did not have a very good season in 1976-77. They finished 9-18. But on that night in the Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse, Bradley was on fire to start the game. They raced to a 28-0 lead before NMSU scored. But then little by little, the lead shrunk, and NMSU, which was the better team, finally overtook the Braves in a high scoring game and New Mexico State won 117-109.
I tried to find some old article about this unique game, but this was all I could find. But I suspect there are a few others who were at the game or at least remember it well.

Sounds like a Stan Albeck coached team. First to 100 wins.

Thanks for your response, my mind's a little fuzzy after all these years! Another record breaking game I saw was the 7 overtime game against Cincinnati, which Bradley lost also. That was a looong - boooring 7 overtimes.

Glad we pounded these guys into oblivion. Last year’s game was the worst officiating I’ve ever seen in my life (and I’ve seen some doozies) and does anyone else remember them posing after making shots after getting call after call from the refs?

This year, Childs seemed to remember as he flexed at the bench after every dunk, and there were numerous dunks to be had. It seems like we've had nearly as many dunks in the first few games this year than we saw all last year!

This team is going to be a fun team to watch!

Yes, that was December 21, 1981. Bradley lost to Cincinnati in 7 overtimes 75-73. It is still the longest game ever played in any classification of the NCAA.
That was before the shot clock, so in each of the 7 overtimes, the team that won the tip and got possession tried to stall for the final shot. That strategy didn't work so well, but it did result in the line score looking like this-

Btw, Bradley's Donald Reese played 73 of the 75 minutes that night, which is also still an NCAA record.

Between Childs, Henry, and Gabriel we have some athletic guys who can really throw down. I expect to see a lot of dunks this year.

And Kingsby I believe will make your list by years end.

Watching the pregame lay up lines is pretty entertaining this year. Don’t sleep on Ville’s jumping ability either. Those five can all fly, Kingsby and Gabriel being the best imo

I think he will too. He has really surprised me so far with his athleticism. I think he can fill the role of DLO pretty well as a great defensive player but also the ability to score on offense.

A well played game on both ends by everyone. Childs kept his butt in the paint and dominated like a POY candidate. Our passing was really good and our defense was much improved. Koch not only caught hard passes in the paint but converted them into buckets. And I would bet that Koch will make a 3 before the season is done. The young guys played well but I would have liked to have seen them play more to get more experience. The 1st win of many this season.

Bingo! Did anyone else catch Kingsby doing a windmill dunk in warmups? Dude's vert has to be around 40".

I was at that game and will buy a beer at the next home game for anyone who can answer this bit of trivia. Because it was played during Christmas break, a local high school band filled in that night. Name the high school band.

I only know because I wrote a news story about it. "We had to repeat some songs two or three times," said the band director. "Some of my kids got awfully tired." Among the songs they played was the theme from "The Greatest American Hero." (For the youngsters on the board, that's a TV show from that time period.)

In the very, very unlikely event (that's a hint) the correct school is named by a minor, I will buy nachos.

That is a great piece of trivia. Especially since I doubt there is anywhere it could be looked up. Except..............
You must not remember that you posted the answer here almost 6 years ago. But to help out, I edited out the clues for now!

But I'd love to see fans take a guess.
Btw, it was common for many years for Bradley to arrange for local area high school bands to fill in for the Bradley Band for home games during Christmas breaks. That practice ended somewhere around 20 years ago or so and now they have an Alumni & Friends band fill in.
