  • SIU gets good news on transfer's eligibility

Nebraska transfer Karrington Davis was just granted a waiver to be eligible to play this season for Southern Illinois head coach Bryan Mullins. That is big news for the Salukis. Davis is a 6'6" shooting guard who was injured his senior HS season (2017-1, had hip labrum surgery, and never played. He still got multiple Power 6 offers, and landed at Nebraska. Then he suffered a torn Achilles before his freshman season at Nebraska (2018-19), and never played last year. So he sat out last season, and then his coach Tim Miles got fired after the season. New head coach Fred Hoiberg refused to renew Davis' scholarship at Nebraska, and sent him packing. So he entered the transfer portal last May, and ended up signing with SIU in June.
Probably for the same reasons as Danya Kingsby, the fact he never got to play last year, and he left under conditions that were not in his control, the NCAA has granted the waiver. If he is healthy and fully recovered, he could be an impact player for SIU.
