The annual preseason Spaghetti Supper was a huge success as always. There was a capacity crowd at the Itoo Hall, and the food (spaghetti, chicken, bread, salads, etc. from Avanti's) was terrific. As always, the men's and women's players, coaches, and staff mingled with the crowd, and spread out and sat at the tables with the fans. After everyone ate, the teams were introduced in a program emceed by Dave Snell that started about 7 pm, and the fans got to hear brief speeches from the seniors. There were a couple of the men's team members, Antonio Thomas and Riley Burger, who unfortunately had night classes tonight and were absent.
The only news I was able to gather about the couple players who are recovering from injuries is that Ari Boya should be ready to play by the start of the season after surgery on his ankle on August 6. And Rienk Mast is still recovering from ACL surgery. The team is in no hurry to rush him back. I took that to mean that he is not ready to be cleared for full-contact practice just yet, and probably won't be cleared to play in the first part of the season's schedule.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable night for everyone.

Do they even expect him to be able to play this season? I think hoping that it will only be 6 or 7 months including getting him up to game speed is very optimistic.

I have asked that question to the coaches before. The answer is yes, they expect him to play this season. Neither the coaches nor Rienk himself want to red-shirt. They hope he will be ready to contribute for the MVC part of the schedule. They cannot be 100% sure that will happen, though, so they are prepared for the alternate possibility of a red-shirt if it is necessary. The decision does not have to be made now.

Great event last night. You could tell it had a different feel, introducing the men’s team as defending MVC Tournament champs and NCAA Tounament participants.
It was also really neat hearing Dave Snell call my last name, as my daughter was the lucky winner of the door prize drawing... a nice signed PJS front page from last years squad.
          Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.
