6'8" Sekou Dembele is a redshirt freshman at SIU. He was a very late 2018 big man landed by Barry Hinson in September, 2018. He redshirted last season, and was one of only a few returning players for new head coach Bryan Mullins. He is also one of only 2 players on the SIU roster taller than Ronnie Suggs and was projected to play an important part for the team this season because they lack height and inside presence.

But unfortunately, he just developed a stress fracture in his left leg, had surgery Monday, and will miss the next 6-8 weeks. There are no plans to redshirt him again, since he will lose a year of eligibility if he requires a medical redshirt season.

This leaves the Salukis with 6'10" Northwestern grad-transfer Barrett Benson as the only big man on the roster.
