  • Bradley men's Basketball Twitter account suspended- rule violation?

The Bradley men's basketball Twitter account has been suspended for some time now, for an apparent violation of Twitter's rules.

If anyone knows anything about why it was suspended, let us know. What Twitter rule could they have violated, and why is it taking so long for them to get reinstated?

The BU Athletic Department's twitter account is still active, and all 12 of the other Bradley sports, men's and women's, have twitter accounts, and they are all still active.
And as far as I can tell, the twitter accounts of every individual coach in every sport are functioning normally, as are all the personal twitter accounts for other Bradley Athletic Department personnel and all the twitter accounts for the University and all their other departments.
So what happened to Bradley Men's Basketball twitter account?

Also, if anyone knows how to find old tweets made by a suspended account, let us know what were the last tweets from @bradleyumbb that might have gotten them suspended.

Thanks, but I don't think it was suspended that long ago. It was probably some time in the last couple weeks.

I don’t know what this situation is, but it was reported earlier this Spring about Iowa and Iowa State’s Twitter accounts being suspended. Maybe there is some commonality and something Twitter is trying to crack down on?

          Interesting..... thanks for the input.

The Bradley twitter account is still "Suspended"-

Note that it was only "suspended", and not "banned", "deactivated", of "locked".
"Suspended" means that it still exists in a temporary suspended state. Most twitter suspensions can be reversed quickly and easily as twitter gives the account holder the reason for the suspension, and also gives instructions how they can have the suspension lifted. Usually it just involves confirming that the account is in control of the original account holder and has not been hacked or compromised, or by simply deleting the tweet that someone complained about or that Twitter says violated their rules, such as possible offensive material, possible spam, or for posting copyrighted material (as was the case with Iowa's football twitter). In the worst case scenario, such as a suspension for repeated violations, there is an appeal process that can take a day or two to resolve.
But Bradley men's basketball's Twitter has now been suspended for weeks. It should never take this long to reverse a suspension, unless the account holder doesn't bother to take the steps to get it the suspension lifted. Twitter accounts get banned and reinstated for far shorter periods than this.

Here are Twitter's rules regarding suspensions-

IMO - Twitter twucks. Don't have an account there - don't seek anything posted there - don't care what exists there.

FWIW, the Bradley men's basketball Twitter account still remains suspended-

I don't know exactly when the suspension started, but it was some time early or mid-July.

Yes, those are now considered "hate speech" by Twitter and many other social media sites. Sad.
Let's keep it on topic now so we don't get too much into political difference. Thanks!

After a month and a half of suspension, the Bradley men's basketball twitter account has finally been restored.

Looks like it came back online yesterday afternoon.

I bet it was the video posted of the team singing happy birthday to Darrell Brown. Not many know this, but the Happy Birthday song has been copyrighted for decades and the copyright holders made millions annually until very recently a court ruled it's in the public domain. For many years if you went to a restaurant the wait staff wouldn't sing Happy Birthday To You, unless it was a really small operation.

Interesting... but I am having trouble believing that was the reason for a 6-week suspension.
I just did a quick search, and there appear to be innumerable tweets of people singing Happy Birthday to their kids and friends in videos on twitter.
And, even when twitter users do post copyrighted material, twitter only demands that the violating tweet be taken down.
And the Darrell Brown birthday tweet was never deleted-

Not true. Happy Birthday is in the public domain.

Most likely there was a video clip which probably contained a background song, either edited into the clip or perhaps even playing in the background of the location. And Twitter's copyright scanner picked up. EVEN THOUGH fair use CLEARLY describes such a situation as legal. Youtube etc are giving out copyright strikes left and right for situations that are fair use.
