The PJS and their message boards were the ones who went with the story on Brooks and Merfeld last spring even though BU preferred to wait on the news releases in order for the assistants to conclude unfinished business where they were formerly employed. I agree it may have cost Merf in his buyout negotiation.Sign in front of the Peoria Journal Star

This board and its members have 100 times more resourses devoted to getting information about Bradley then the PJstar. Do you think Dave Reynolds has been to any Bradley practices this summer? Do you think he has subscriptions to every recruiting service? Do you think he has contacts that include players parents, actual players, current students, former students, current and former coaches and big time boosters? I think not.Can we start winning soon?

Any individual could pay for their subscriptions out of their own pocket. Any individual could try to network to get into a practice. Any individual could network to talk to people considered contacts - including players parents, players, students, former students, current and former coaches, and big time boosters.
So what's the problem?

But I do agree with you that it's not the pjstar's fault for something getting out early .. it's the fault of the person who leaked them the info.
Originally posted by Lakeview BraveIf I were the PJstar I wouldn???‚¬?„?t really care what Bradley wanted me to do. Papers like the New York Times report news that borders on hurting national security so this is no big deal...
The Information business is all about relationships. Sometimes you sit on a story because you know dividends will be paid down the road...

all that having been said, I think the journal star does a great job of covering the area. I am a subscriber and have friends who work/have worked there. It's a quality paper and they can run their private business however they please. Just don't get surprised when there's ramifications to getting a scoop that somebody else doesn't want released yet.

I might be flying in outta nowhere....
But I think whoever leaked the story to the PJStar might be someone who wants to damage BradleyFans.com. But that person might have gotten the leak from someone that posts a lot on this board... so the 1st person accidentally leaked it to a 2nd person who can't be trusted with sensitive info. But who in the world would want to harm BradleyFans.com?
That's my take on it - if it makes sense - and if it matters.

Just for reference, the very first story on Merfeld was on 5/15/07 in which the PJS writer simply stated there were reports that Merfeld had been seen on campus and speculated maybe it was something to do with the open assistant spot. I really doubt the PJS writer ever saw Merfeld himself, so he was going with something pretty soft.
By 5/30 there were reports on the TV stations in Evansville that Merfeld was hired at BU, so the story in the 6/1/07 PJ Star was just a day (or more) late and wasn't really breaking anything.
However, the very first report of Merfeld being the new BU coach actually came from a poster right here on Bradleyfans, at least 3 weeks ahead of appearing anywhere else....(I have proof of course)......but it was kept completely quiet and was discussed only between BU fans privately and OFF the board.
Had we wanted to make a big deal out of scooping everyone else, we certainly could have, but chose NOT TO and instead to keep it hush, since the BU people did not want it made public yet.
Same for the Brooks hiring, which was known by several posters here days before anyone else knew, yet we kept it on the QT.
By the way, occasionally someone asks why I don't post any more on another certain board. And the answer is because I occasionally chose NOT to post some info and told people if they wanted to know the answers to the questions they were asking me, they'd have to catch me personally and I would tell them privately but NOT publicly.
Seems that approach infuriated a certain moderator there and he kicked me off the board because of it, and even explained to me in an e mail that it was because I wouldn't post things publicly but implied I might offer the info privately.
In fact their entire private messaging feature was canned because they feared certain people (ahem...like me) might just be saying private things that they wanted to know.
