Porter Moser says returning MVC All Freshman player Cooper Kaifes will miss the 2019-20 season and redshirt due to a hip injury. He will have surgery tomorrow for a hip labrum repair. He is talking about his incoming recruits now.
Darian DeVries, head coach of Drake, is talking now, and answering questions from media members. He is expecting Siena transfer Roman Penn (5'11" point guard 5'11" who averaged 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 2017-18 as a freshman) to play a big role for the 2019-20 Drake team and fill in for the players he lost from last year's team.
He also says Tremell Murphy is still recovering from an injury, and Bradley Ernst, transfer from Florida Gulf Coast is still recovering from knee surgery he had 2 weeks ago. DeVries admits Ernst's "knees are in pretty bad shape".
Also, Drake is still waiting on a final appeal (it was denied initially) to try to get another year for Nick Norton.
The DeVries interview is running long. Coach Wardle will be next.
Coach Wardle summarizes the returning players and the new additions.
Now answering a question about the longer 3-point line. He believes it will help Bradley because "we have guys who can make it".
Now answering a question about Danya Kingsby, calling him explosive, well coached in the past, and able to play the point well.
Elijah Childs working on all his skills as well as his weaknesses and improving.
Amazing that our local media member in the teleconference did not ask a single question of Coach Wardle, and nobody asked about Rienk Mast's injury or his status. Stunning.
Wardle's interview was very short, and now Dan Muller talking.
Muller talked about all his transfer guys who sat out last year, and he describes them all as Player of the Year candidates.
He says he will play a faster tempo this season. he also says he won't put up with the bad "habits" and other things he put up with last year. "I won't do that again". He is clearly talking about some of the Milik Yarbrough stuff. He also notes that ISU's trip to Italy this summer would give them experience with the new 3-point line that is the same as the international line.
Kyle Green, assistant coach at UNI is substituting for Ben Jacobson now.
bad break on Nick Norton but somewhat expected...
really tough break on Kaifes - as Braves fans know, he was a HUGE difference in the game we beat them in the MVC Tourney..
He came off the bench and hit 5-6 including 4-5 from beyond the arc to keep Loyola right in the game after we had perfectly planned our defense to stop Townes, Custer & Krutwig - http://www.mvc.org/mbb/stats/mvc7.htm
UNI assistant coach Kyle Green gave brief summaries of their returning players and is now answering questions. UNI will also get an early start with a trip to Italy.
Other news-
Kyle Green says incoming freshman big man Cole Henry (6'9", 2015 lbs) is dealing with a knee injury and will not play on their Italy trip.
He also talked briefly about big man Austin Phyfe, who he says is healthier and will play a bigger role this year.
Matt Lottich expecting returning senior Ryan Fazekas to be their best player, as well as returning MVC All-Freshman team member Javon Freeman.
He expects St. Joseph's transfer guard Nick Robinson to help a lot, as well as another Seton Hall transfer guard Eron Gordon.
Evansville head coach Walter McCarty is next. There is dead air while they wait for him to call in, in case anyone is listening and wonders why they don't hear anything.
Coach McCarty listed his returning players and new guys, and answered questions.
The first question asked him to talk in more detail about his transfer players who sat out last year. Sam Cunliffe from Arizona State (previously at Kansas) and Artur Labinowicz from Coastal Carolina, as well as freshman redshirt DeAndre Williams.
Dana Ford now talking about his returning players and new guys at Missouri State.
He said they have some minor injury issues, but nothing that will affect the 2019-20 season.
Junior Tyrik Dixon will be their primary point guard.
Nothing else new to report.
WTH? I heard Dave Reynolds ask a question to Porter Moser of Loyola, so he must have been on the tel-conference. But he never asked any questions to Wardle. Why not ask about one of the top recruits, Mast, and his injury? Or any questions about the new guys, or Ville? Is there any doubt our media don't giveacrap?

It baffles me....
Bryan Mullins now discussing his returning players and new guys.
