Cleveland State fired Dennis Felton and his entire staff:

Cleveland State has fired Dennis Felton as its men’s basketball coach. His staff has been relieved as well.

I feel for the staff they bring in. What kind of recruits will they get at this late stage? Wardle's first team would look like a top 50 in comparison. It would appear logical for CSU to skip a year and not field a men's team in 19-20 but, there are probably contracts in place.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

Felton has only been there two years, so this is NOT just a case of didn't get enough wins - the wording in some statements was
that they needed to completely clean house to get the culture back where it needs to be.
His contract when he signed in 2017 was 5 years at $450K - https://www.crainscleveland.com/arti...al-can-earn-up

Just a couple months ago, they had a big scandal with a coach and a couple Athletic Dept people got run out..
                  https://www.cleveland.com/news/2019/...-drug-use.html

Then, all their best basketball players started transferring out a few weeks ago...
The real doofus here is the AD Scott Garrett - he must have known the situation possibly as much as a month or more ago - so why wait til now?

Cleveland State is rumored to be hiring Florida State assistant coach Dennis Gates.

                      Not a rumor anymore: https://www.csuohio.edu/news/csu-nam...all-head-coach

Gates, along with his wife Jocelyn, daughter Avery and son Duke, will be officially introduced at a press conference at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 30, in the CSU Student Center Ballroom on campus.

With roughly 2.5 months until the start of practice, I wish him well at this stage. He should and will do the best he can with what he has and start planning for 20-21.

At least 8 of the Cleveland State players have transferred out, including all their best players. Also, most of the committed players from their incoming 2019 recruiting class have decommitted due to the turmoil there, and that recruiting class had been rated as poor.

The new Cleveland State Athletic Director has been very secretive regarding what went on with former head coach Dennis Felton that caused the mass exodus, and eventually lead to Felton's firing-

Felton's contract paid him $1 million per year, and has 3 more years left on it. That is a staggering amount for a bad Horizon League team that has averaged more than 22 losses per year over the last 4 years. Cleveland State drew only 1,302 per game last season, so where will the money come from to buy out Felton's contract, and pay the new coach?

Yesterday there was a tidbit of good news. One of their incoming 2019 commits who had decommitted and asked for release has now reversed his course and he says he will honor his commitments and attend CSU. Even with that good news, they will be very shorthanded. They have only 2 returning scholarship players from last year's team, plus one transfer who sat out last year. New coach Dennis Gates will have his work cut out for him next season. He has a bunch of open scholarships, and will have to sign a few more kids just to have enough players to play next season.

Another Division I coach gets fired- UNC Wilmington fired their Head Basketball Coach C.B. McGrath today.
UNCW is currently 5-14 overall (only 2 of the 5 wins were against D1 schools) and 0-6 in the Colonial Athletic Association, but it is unusual, despite the losing record, to see a head coach fired at midseason like this, unless there are other issues. However, no reasons were given by their Athletic Director.
