  • Rienk Mast has ACL injury

Further evaluation of Rienk Mast's knee injury reportedly shows an injury to his Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
His season is over, and he will not play any more. He is awaiting recommendations from the doctors on how to proceed.
This article says he is awaiting a rehabilitation course-

It matters quite a bit whether it’s a strain, partial tear or full tear. Sounds like it’s not a full tear so I’m hopeful he’ll be healed by November. I’m sure our crack award winning reporter is on the case.

Waiting on MRI results that will be shared with BU. Once the extent of the injury is determined he may come to BU and get started on classes and use BU’s facilities for rehab.

That would be at least a sliver of silver lining - that if he does not play the rest of this summer,
then he might enroll in early June, start bulking up, taking classes, getting a head start on academics,
and building stamina with non-weight bearing conditioning

An exam of the knee can usually tell if there is more than the usual amount of forward displacement when the knee is tested, which suggests a torn or a stretched Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
But now that MRI's are available nearly everywhere, the MRI is the ultimate diagnostic test to determine the severity of injury to the ACL. The fact that they are not calling it a "torn ACL" yet is slightly encouraging, since the physical exam can almost always diagnose a completely torn ACL. Let's hope the MRI doesn't show a bd tear. The latest on Rienk Mast this morning from a Groningen sports reporter ... he does not refer to the MRI, though.
It is being reported that Rienk does not have a complete tear and is being ordered to rest the knee for the next several months.
The translated quote is "long time on non-active because of a damaged ligament."

He will not play basketball this summer for the Dutch under-18 National Team. That is a blow to that team because Rienk was expected to be their best player. I expect he will begin a rehab program in a few months.
