After spending the summer working out at Bradley, Jamir Price's plans have changed. His original intent was to spend the 2019-20 season at the prep school above in Atlanta. But now he will enroll and play at a Division II school where he can play college ball immediately. Good luck Jamir!

Here is the updated Bradley Scholarship Grid as of Aug. 2 with JaMir Price removed-
            https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...holarship-grid

            Scholarship-Grid-as-of-June-30-2019

Dave Reynolds posted this article about JaMir-
            https://www.pjstar.com/sports/20190802/guard-jamir-price-decides-against-bradley

Dave believes JaMir "most likely" will choose Quincy University, since they "recruited him hard" out of high school.

            However, Dave also says-
Price's decision means another scholarship opens for Bradley next season, giving the Braves at least four available roster spots for 2020-21. There are three seniors this year - Darrell Brown, Nate Kennell and Koch Bar.

According to the Scholarship Grid above, I think that is wrong. There are just 3 scholarship players leaving after this season, the 3 seniors (Darrell Brown, Nate Kennell, and Koch Bar). And, unless something unexpected happens and assuming all other scholarship players return next year, those are the only 3 scholarships that would be available for next year. JaMir was slated to get one of those 3, so by JaMir changing his plans, it now leaves three scholarships for 2020-21, not four.

Article about JaMir Price, why he decided to leave Bradley, and what his plans are-
                https://qconline.com/sports/college/...83f5264f3.html

A really good, in-depth article about JaMir, his situation, his plans, and his reasons for leaving BU. It contains many quotes directly from JaMir himself, and new information that was not available in other stories about JaMir leaving BU. This is a great article. Wish we'd see more like this from our local media about all the Bradley players.

No offense to JaMir, but I think there is a bigger difference between DI and DII than he is saying. I saw JaMir play last year, and he definitely needed some development time before he could contribute in the Valley. He likely could have gotten there in a couple years, but I appreciate this move by him. I think playing with the guys over the summer gave him a gauge of exactly how far he was.

From WCBU: "Luciano says the paper is down to five reporters in the newsroom and two in the sports department represented by the Peoria News Guild, the newsroom employees' union. That's down from dozens of staffers in the paper's prime. "

I don't know how they can cover local sports, let alone write fluff pieces about the players.

I don't think Bradley fans care about fluff pieces. They'd be happy with real informative articles reporting easily obtainable information about Bradley. But that would take some research and phone calls. Instead we just get tiny blurbs that are little more than regurgitation of press releases they are handed.

Again, compare this brief article about JaMir Price from the PJS with limited info and no quotes from anyone-
                      https://www.pjstar.com/sports/20190802/guard-jamir-price-decides-against-bradley

....With this well done article from the qconline.com with an interview with JaMir and a lot more information-

I understand the staff cuts, but other newspapers have the same problem, and sadly, virtually every other city's coverage of local sports is far better than what Peoria gets.
And their financial problems are not a reason to stifle criticism or avoid pointing out their deficiencies.
I read online stories written by all the MVC beat writers, and the difference in coverage and information provided is like night and day.

I just saw this story- Gatehouse Media (the owner of the PJ Star) must have a nice bankroll from all the money they are saving on salaries. They just bought Gannett, the owner/publisher of the USA Today and more than 100 other smaller newspapers for $1.38 billion.
GateHouse Media owner and USA TODAY owner Gannett have agreed to merge in a deal aimed at cutting costs and enabling digital growth.

Would you keep calling if no one is answering? I think you guys are starting to see how much public info Bradley wants to put out there with their Bradley men's basketball twitter feed. They have that right. Even this "well done" article from the QC times has no info from Bradley (c'mon, you know that's not the real story). Not even the generic "we wish JaMir luck in his future career."

Do you work at the PJS? Do you have direct knowledge that Bradley won't return calls? Regarding the QC story, it had quotes from JaMir, how was that off limits?

The problem is not at Bradley. I can assure you they would love to get more publicity and are happy to have media coverage of any kind.
Even the all-volunteer Bradley Scout does a better job reporting on the Braves team (except when they are on summer break ).
And how did a relative newcomer reporter at WMBD, Matt McClain manage to get on campus, attend a practice and do this fine video report on Ari Boya a couple weeks ago? He even had "info from Bradley" and quotes from Coach Wardle in his article! So nobody's buying the line that Bradley doesn't want any "public info" "put out there".

You started out blaming it on the poor PJS and their budget cuts, and now you seem to be suggesting the PJ Star is really a great newspaper with great coverage, but Bradley won't let them report anything. I am not buying either, and neither are the thousands of former subscribers who are no longer paying for their lousy local coverage.
If it wasn't for websites like this and a few others, how many people would know anything about the players and the team?

New article (again it is in the Quad City Times/QConline.com and not our local paper) about Jamir Price, who is now at Quincy University for the 2019-20 season.
