  • Loyola player transferring

6'7" Loyola sophomore forward Christian Negron announced he is leaving Loyola and transferring. Negron is from Elgin Larkin HS, and going into his senior year of high school (2016-17) he was rated as a 4-star recruit and one of the top couple skilled big men in Illinois. He had offers from Bradley, Illinois, DePaul, Iowa, Butler, and Oregon State, and interest from many other high-major schools. But he suffered a devastating knee injury right before his senior season, and missed the entire year.
All his offers disappeared, but Loyola coach Porter Moser took a chance and offered a scholarship, and Negron accepted. After taking his senior year in high school off to recover, he played very little his freshman season (2017-8 ). He appeared in only 17 games and averaged 1.0 ppg and 0.8 rpg. This past season (2018-19) he played in 29 games and averaged 1.9 ppg and 2.0 rpg. This leaves Loyola with very little size. The only returning scholarship forwards on their roster next fall will be 6'9" junior starting center Cameron Krutwig (14.8/7.2), 6'9" sophomore reserve forward Franklin Agunanne (1.9/1.8 ), and 6'7" junior reserve small forward Aher Uguak (5.8/3.5).

Bradley recruited and offered Negron but he has never regained his mobility since the knee injury.
He wants to play a wing position but isn't mobile enough to guard out there and not big enough to play post.

There was talk that Negron was actually Bradley's #1 target up til fall of 2016, then when he injured his knee in late Sept. 2016,
Bradley turned to Elijah Childs... and Childs committed to Bradley a week or so later...
In the end, I am happy we got Childs..

speaking of Loyola...they have been the best team in the Valley the past two seasons...
from the end of January in 2018 when they began their undefeated stretch thru to the Final Four...all the way until their season ended in March 2019
they went 23-8 against MVC opponents...

of those 8 losses - one each was to Evansville, Illinois State, and SIU, two were to Missouri State
but three of them were to Bradley...
Bradley has also beaten ISU (arguably the 2nd best team in that same span) 3 out of 4 over that same time span

Looking forward to facing them next year....

When I look at next season, we clearly have a good opportunity to have a special team.

I think & say this every year... it’s all about whether the returning team leaders step up and intentionally take the reigns from those who have moved on. This coming season the wildcard is whether someone can backfill DLo’s and Lundy’s emotional and effort leadership.

This past season we eventually did that, but it took 2/3 of the season to solidify. If we can ever hit a year where it happens in the first month... look out.
        Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

Maybe we mentioned this elsewhere - but SIU's Amadou Fall is now leaving and transferring....
he didn't play most of his whole high school senior year then sat out his whole first year at SIU - so I kinda suspected
he wasn't going to be getting any playing time at SIU -
he will be headed to juco...
