one more thing, Donar's senior club team will play in their league's post-season tourney then has also
requeste to play in another early summer league "The BCL" (Basketball Champions League) which will
match hem against other European teams from other nations. If they do not get into the BCL, then they will
play in the FIBA Europe Cup, a multi-nation summer tourney. It is unknown how many of those games
Rienk Mast will play in since we know he has prior commitment to his National U18 Team all the way thru July.

Rienk Mast's next game is Sunday against the senior club team of Apollo Amsterdam - there should be a link to view it...

if that team sounds familiar - then you have a good memory - since way last fall Bradley went on a foreign tour
and the team they played in the Netherlands was a mix of senior and junior team players from Apollo Amsterdam.

we will have to wait to see how Rienk's game translates into playing at the DI level at age 18...
but there's a LOT to like watching him play with his European team...
He is a legit 6-9, he jumps center and outjumps 6-10 guys, he runs the floor extremely well and is
always the first upcourt forcing defenses to scramble to get back....and he can defend anyone on the floor, mobile enough to cover a guard and bog enough to defend their post players
and he has a nice outside shot - as I noted elsewhere - he's been shooting 3-pointers at a 50% clip over the past 2 months
                      He's 1-2 from 3-pt today -

Donar leads after 1st quarter 27-12...looks like Donar showed up to play! Remember, this is a best of 3 games series so getting a
big lead right away is very important!

edit- update - midway thru the 2nd quarter, Den Helder calls another timeout with Donar blowing away to a 39-12 lead

I like Rienk Masts' game. In the MVC, every team has good guards, but the distinction that separates the successful teams usually is the quality of the big men and their ability to score. The teams with the best and most offensively skilled big men, IMO were Loyola, ISU, Missouri State, SIU, and Drake (not necessarily in that order. No surprise those were the top teams in the MVC.
I believe the one single most important factor that helped Bradley down the stretch, made them competitive with the top teams, and propelled them to the MVC Championship was the improvement and consistency of Elijah Childs. He became nearly unstoppable in the MVC Tournament, despite frequent double-teaming. So Bradley needs to keep trying to land players like Eli to sustain their successes. I see a little of that in Rienk Mast. But a lot more of the names in our recruiting threads are similar types of players than in the past, so it's nice to see our coaches target the bigger recruits who can score.

                          Game is a massive blowout...
                          halftime Donar 52 - Den Helder 20, Donar hitting 57% (22-38 ) and 6-12 from 3-pt
All ten Donar players who have entered the game have scored and the scoring is remarkably even & balanced
Rienk Mast has 7 pts and 2 asst, 3 Donar players have 8 pts each

as always seems to happen in these Euro leagues, a couple players have left the Donar squad (Dendy, Wall) and it appears they only have 10 players.
Their roster does suggest three of their junior players are with the senior squad, but they have played very little at this level.

The next game in this series will be at Den Helder. The Den Helder Suns are based in the city of Den Helder which is out on a peninsula
in the extreme northwest of The Netherlands about 60 miles north of Amsterdam- and about 100 miles to the west of Groningen.

                            Final score
                            Donar 102 - Den Helder 52
Rienk didn't play much in the 2nd half as the reserves got lots of time
and he only took one shot in the 2nd half so he finishes with 7 pts

                                Rienk Mast news....

-Rienk was named 4th best performance for the week in the Netherlands' TOP PRO league weekly awards
"Other top performing players last week: ...
                                4. Rienk Mast (203-PF-01) of Groningen - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists"

                                - Donar's next playoff game is today, it will start about 12:30pm Central time
Here is the link to free video streaming of the entire game - https://www.rtvnoord.nl/liveextra
(if the link is inactive, I will try to find an active one at game time)

                                -here's a link for live stats for today's game - https://www.fibalivestats.com/u/NEBF/1143974/

Donar Groningen is currently playing as well as any team - even recently beating the very top team Leiden
(who they will face if they advance to the next round of playoffs), 85-82 with Mast scoring 18,
and Leiden has dominated the league all year at 31-3. But Donar doesn't really have a STAR player - they do it with good team play.
If you check the league leaders only two Donar players show up in the top 10 of any stat category...
There are no Donar players in the top 10 of scoring, assists, or steals.
The 10th best rebounder (Thomas Koenis at 6.9 rpg) is from Donar, and Koenis (0.6 bpg) is 7th in blocks.
In fact, the TOP SCORER for Groningen ranks #32 in the league in scoring...Rienk is #42 with his average of almost 10 ppg
                                Rienk is #25 in rebounding.
