  • Concerns 3 weeks away from school starting...

School starts 3 weeks from tomorrow, and there are 3 major issues with the team that concern me right now -

1.) Rashad Austin - Where is he? Why isn't he on campus yet? Why did he miss the entire summer when the rest of his teammates were here working hard? How far behind is he?

2.) Matt Salley - He's MIA, is he coming back? Where is he? What is his status?

3.) Jeremy Crouch - It's been well over 2 months since the injury, but I don't think he's been cleared to play yet. Is there something we don't know? Has he suffered a setback? He's vital to the success of this year's team.

I'm not trying to dampen anyone's excitement about this upcoming season, because I think we all have a lot to be excited about. But these 3 guys are all vital cogs to our success, and it bothers me that we have this many questions marks already. It's going to be tough enough getting 7 newcomers to mesh effectively, with 2 guys not around and 1 who can't play, and a virtually new coaching staff, it's going to be that much harder. Hopefully all 3 of these areas are cleared up by the time school starts.

I am not fully informed on all these issues, but here is what I know for answers to your questions:

    1) Rashad Austin - he spent a little extra time in Sterling, Colorado finishing courses so that he could get his juco degree and be immediately eligible.
I have been given word he is completely done and there are NO concerns about eligibility. Rashad has been working out, lifting weights, and staying in shape. (you can't study 100% of the time, so he did have time for conditioning).
He went home to California since he hasn't been able to see family in months, and he will be arriving soon on BU's campus, the exact timing is uncertain.
He is powerfully built, 6-7, 240, and won't be "behind".
He has a long reputation of "coming to play" and I doubt he will take long to become a fan favorite.

    2) Matt Salley, I think you know, he has had some concerns.
There has been no final decision or announcement, so I am fully hopeful any problems can be worked out and matt can move forward.

    3) JC is doing great, and is just short of actually working out in full on-court play with physical contact.
If you Jeremy's history, he has battled back from slumps, knee repair, and other probalems, and I am confident he will be ready to go soon! I have seen him numerous times working out with Ronnie Wright and in the weight room, and he is at every scrimmage I have seen, so he is a vital part of this team.

T, I agree that everything is going to fall into place but I have had some of the same concerns that BradleyBrave posted. I would have liked to see Austin here with the rest of the team for the summer but I think we all know why he could not be here. As far as Salley I am very concerned about his situation and hope it can get worked out. We need some experience big men to go with the new guys and Salley had a pretty good year last year. The question I have is if we did not have his services ( and I hope we do) considering what we have heard about Will, do you not believe he could step in and contribute right away? Is not Will going to take some minutes from someone any way? It seems to me that we will be OK no matter what happens IF Will is as good as advertised???

      Thoughts????

What are the concerns, other than playing time?

Of those three MS is my biggest concern. I think its a discipline thing and JL has shown he's no Weber. He will NOT hesitiate, hem haw or give 3 game suspensions against early season cupcakes to send his message.

RA will be here....Lil Bush assured us. JC will be advanced with caution.

I hope MS can get whatever it is straightened out.....

My biggest concern is the issues with Matt. I think of the three there are most questions about that situation. JC was hurt, he's rehabbing and will be back. It would be nice if he was working out with the guys but I don't think it's that big of a setback, and I believe that Austin will be here.

I have personally seen MS walking around over in St. James (since I live over there and all)... did not realize he was having problems.

If he's back on campus, that is a good thing. We're all hoping for the best. We do need Matt Salley next year to be at our best.

why the Weber bash dogs? Every coach handles situations differently. JL gave RB another chance. Maybe others we don't know about.

I didn't mean it to be a weber "bash" lefty. I like Weber. IF I had a criticism of him its his apparent indecisiveness. I have seen and met him multiple times. In hearing him speak he is not a very direct and to the point guy. I think it hurts him in several areas.

This is something I've been trying to stress, DO NOT think that BU is on pedastel here, they just don't have national media airing out their dirty laundry. BU is by no means a sleezy program, but we face the same difficulties as all other schools do.
