At the risk of sounding like sour grapes -- there's a call that sticks in my memory from last year.....
..just wanted to see if anyone else saw the play as I did...
If there's one play that still bugs me from the past - it is a play that occurred on Saturday Mar. 3, 2018..
Semifinal of the MVC Tournament Bradley vs. Loyola...near the end of the game...
We had beaten Loyola the previous time we met in Peoria- and were playing even with them in St. Louis...
We were within 1 point in the final 5-6 minutes...then after a couple Marques Townes free throws, Ben Richardson collided with DLO and knocked the ball loose...
no foul was called, but DLO dived to secure the loose ball and call time out but Richardson had a hand on the ball and the refs (John Higgins, Kelly Self, Ed Crenshaw) instead called it a jump ball.
The play happened on the floor right in front of me with 1:45 left and I thought it was a terrible call and we should have retained possession.
Well - the rest is history - Loyola got possession, we went from having the ball and just one possession from overtaking Loyola and advancing to the Championship game -
but instead, they got possession on that call, they scored a 3-pointer 20 seconds later, won the game, our season was over - and they made their run to the Final Four.
That one single play made all the difference.....but I am so glad our staff used that motivation to assure that things would be different this year -
I am happy for Loyola & how they did after beating us that day and helping the MVC earn a lot of money form their success in the NCAA.
But i do keep thinking that could have been us....wonder how it might have been has Higgins seen it the way I did and called time and possession for us.
btw- if anyone knows a link to a video that shows that play - I would love to watch it again
