  • NIT Bracket

Loyola gets ripped - they get a 7-seed, face Creighton (Porter Moser is a Creighton alum)
Indiana gets a #1 seed, Wichita gets a #6-seed.... no other MVC teams in the NIT.

Loyola's NET of 128 guaranteed no better than a 7 seed. Too bad Drake didn't get an NIT bid. They actually had a slightly better NET (127) and had a victory over a Quadrant 1 team, which Loyola didn't.

The NIT will incorporate several experimental new rules-
    • The 3-point line will be extended by approximately 1 foot, 8 inches to the same distance used by FIBA for international competition (22 feet, 1.75 inches).
    • The free throw lane will be widened from 12 feet to 16 feet, consistent with the width used by the NBA.
    • The shot clock will reset to 20 seconds after an offensive rebound instead of the full 30 seconds.
    • Team fouls will reset at the 10-minute mark of each half for the purpose of determining free throws and one-and-one free throws will be eliminated. Teams will shoot two bonus free throws after the fifth team foul of each 10-minute segment. Additionally, teams will be awarded two bonus free throws after the second team foul committed under two minutes remaining in each half if that foul occurs before the fifth team foul of the segment. In each overtime period, team fouls will reset, and teams will shoot two free throws beginning with the fourth team foul or the second team foul committed under two minutes remaining if that comes before the fourth team foul of the overtime period.

Will the new distance be used for games between DI and non-DI teams?

My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

don't know but surely whatever line is on the home court would be used - and I can't recall ever seeing a game where a D-I played on the road at a DII

Yes, it should be. The only exception might be if there are any games played on the home court of the non-D1 school, which virtually never happens.
Division II and III will follow suit, but not until the 2020-21 season. So far, the NAIA and other divisions have not announced any similar change, but I suspect they probably will follow suit.

Interesting to note that this change by the NCAA applies only to men's basketball. The women's three point line will remain at 20 feet, 9 inches for now, which is about 1 foot 5 inches shorter than the international distance.
However, in March the NCAA announced the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee approved an experimental rule to use the international 3-point line for postseason events, excluding the NCAA championships in each division.
The Committee members "want to examine whether moving the line back to the distance of 22 feet, 1¾ inches (from 20 feet 9 inches) will enhance the game."
