Every year the Valley teams that go to the NCAA Tournament get 10-12 days off to recover, plan, practice & prepare...
And every year we see the MVC teams kick butt and do way better than people expect!
Note this comment from the MVC -
"Since the 2011 postseason, the MVC has the best cumulative record of any conference in the NCAA,
NIT, CIT and CBI, combined. That 56-31 (.644) overall mark includes an 18-11 record in the NCAA Tournament
in the past eight years.
The MVC has had a minimum of one NCAA tourney win in each of the past seven years (2012-present)
for a cumulative 18-10 (.643) record.
Only four leagues are better than .600 in that span: SEC (.643), ACC (.636), B1G (.623)."
Valley teams have had remarkable success and a couple Final Fours that throw a true scare into the big boys!
And that doesn't take into account that the MVC had TWO teams make the Sweet Sixteen in 2006, one more made it in 2007,
and then......UNI did it yet again in 2010
SIU also had a Sweet Sixteen run in 2002, Missouri State did it in 1999 and the MVC has also had plenty of
incredible success in NIT's and other post-season tourneys!!
So - is the current plan of having our conference tournament a week earlier - really the secret plan to gain advantage on the rest of NCAA Division I?
If so, then Doug Elgin deserves at least some credit for figuring this out 20 years ago and giving us the advantage.
